Team: Student Ministries Salary Range: $1700.00 Hours: 20-25

Reports to: Minister of Youth & Impact Ministries

SFPC MISSION: We are a community of ordinary people experiencing and embodying God’s extraordinary love.


Summary: Director of Student Ministries is a part-time position. Director will understand and embrace the mission of Salem First Presbyterian Church and be responsible for the development and implementation of all programs, activities and educational aspects related to youth programming at SFPC. Specifically, the Director is responsible for REACH Programming (6th -12th grade), and other programming geared toward middle and high school students. 


Duties and Responsibilities:

  1. Collaborate with supervisor to develop and implement vision for all student ministries at SFPC 
  2. Collaborate with supervisor on the recruitment and training development of all SM volunteers
  3. Provide strategic leadership and planning initiatives for Middle and High School Ministries
  4. Implement age appropriate activities for students that promote community through fellowship, fun, spiritual direction and faith development
  5. Be present on local middle and high school campuses, developing relationships with students and encouraging church students in their life and witness on campus
  6. Collaborate with supervisor to establish annual budget 
  7. Promote Christian mission and service through age appropriate service projects & mission activities 
  8. Actively participate in the worship community of SFPC
  9. Keep the congregation informed of student events by coordinating the publicity for student activities through congregational media and communication resources
  10. Encourage young people to participate in all facets of the life and ministry of SFPC
  11. Collaborate with supervisor in development and oversight of confirmation curriculum preparing students for church membership
  12. Develop and implement all safety & security processes for SM in cooperation with Session and its policies
  13. Attend SFPC staff meetings twice a month, monthly Student Ministries meetings
  14. Coordinate student activities with other ministries of the congregation in cooperation with the SFPC staff
  15. Provide the office staff a schedule of all student activities
  16. Meet weekly with supervisor
  17. Other duties as assigned

  7. Able to identify and foster leadership in adults with students
  8. Proficient computer skills & and applicable technologies 
  9. Excellent interpersonal communication skills, including: listening, problem solving, and capacity to demonstrate good judgment, courtesy, confidentiality and tact with others
  10. Effective organization, time & stress management skills


Physical Conditions and Nature of Work Contacts:

Work involves sitting, standing, walking, bending, and light lifting with other limited physical activity. Occasional heavy lifting (50 lbs) may also be required. Working conditions are generally favorable, however, work may be performed in both indoor and/or outdoor environment: subject to cold in winter, hot in summer. In general, position can be stressful due to volume of work, deadlines, and/or dealing with others on the job. Other pressures and stress of position range from dealing with potential crisis situations and safety concerns.



Evaluation will be performed annually. Employee performance will be evaluated based upon his/her ability to meet the requirements of the position, as outlined in his/her position description. In addition, an employee will be evaluated based upon his/her:
