Biblical Ministry Objectives

a) A commitment to seeing the mission statement of St. James, "Following Jesus, We Love God and Neighbor!" lived out through the worship ministries.
b) In partnership with staff, leaders and volunteers, plan and lead worshipers at St. James into a deeper faith in Jesus Christ through quality worship that moves peoples from audience to active participant.
c) To fully engage the musical gifts of the congregation so that leaders are raised up for worship in traditional, contemporary and other styles.
Responsibilities and Duties of Contemporary Coordinator of Worship and Music
a) The ability to play the keyboard or the guitar and to read music.
b) Choose songs, solos, choral, praise band instrumental pieces of music for every contemporary worship service taking into account:
- Worship theme for that service
- Church calendar
- Flow of the service
- Suggestions from those in the worship ministries.
Responsibilities and Duties of Traditional Coordinator of Worship and Music
a) The ability to play the keyboard and to read music.
b) Choose hymns, solos, choral, instrumental pieces of music for every traditional worship service taking into account:
a. Worship theme for that service
b. Church calendar
c. Flow of the service
d. Suggestions from those in the worship ministries.
Responsibilities and Duties of Contemporary & Traditional Coordinators of Worship and Music
a) Choose musical liturgy components, seasonally.
b) The quality of the music selected should take into account the skills and availability of the musicians
c) Prepare music (search, order, copy) using published works, St. James licensed sources, or original works with
appropriate authority, observing appropriate copyrights. Report CCLI usage. Preparation of music also includes
transposing for vocal and instrumental use as necessary.
d) Coordinate and lead musical groups in preparation for worship and special services to achieve appropriate proficiency and increase participating.
e) Recruit, mentor, and develop volunteer vocalists and instrumentalists to help grow their spiritual gifts, toward ever-more praiseworthy worship. Encourage volunteer contributors to take leadership roles in special events and worship activities.
f) Coordinate the mentoring of newer musicians with those more experienced.
g) Provide musical selections and proofread for the publishing of worship materials in a timely manner.
h) Participate in worship planning meetings, especially the Creative Worship Team, to contribute to the shared creative process with the goal of growth in excellence.
i) Work with the church staff to develop the annual budget and administer expenditure of the budget.
j) Ability and willingness to coordinate additional music events in the life of the congregation, as gifts and time allow
k) If available participate in weddings and funerals with first refusal rites. Compensation provided is not from the church but from the funeral home/family.
l) Other duties as the ministry at St. James grows.
A monthly report will be prepared and submitted to Church Council to be included during routine meetings.
To the Pastor and Church Council
a) High School graduate required, college degree preferred
b) Significant musical experience and/or study
c) Strong interpersonal skills
15 to 20 hours per week for each position. 30 -35 hours per week if one person coordinates both positions.
a) Performance reviews at 30, 60, 90 and 180 days and annually thereafter
- This ministry job description will be reviewed annually by the Mutual Ministry Committee
b) A self-evaluation will be received prior to the annual evaluation and will be completed and submitted to the pastor.
