Job Description:

The Children’s Ministry Director is responsible for developing and implementing the vision for faith formation among children and their families, and providing leadership for the Children’s Ministry team at Hope Ankeny. 




To provide leadership for the Children’s Ministry staff and volunteers within the mission, vision, and values of Lutheran Church of Hope, the Children’s Ministry Director will be responsible for:


  • Overseeing the current children’s ministries of Hope Ankeny including: HopeKids (weekend worship children’s programming), OneBody (special needs ministry), Hope Families (Wednesday family worship night), Vacation Bible School, and occasional special events
  • Leading monthly meetings of the volunteer Children’s Ministry Advisory Team
  • Sharing the leadership of Children’s Ministry weekend programming (HopeKids) with the Children’s Ministry Coordinator and volunteer leaders
  • Recruiting, coordinating, training, and supporting Children’s Ministry volunteers
  • Creating and effectively managing the ministry’s budget
  • Communicating consistently with staff, families, and volunteers
  • Maintaining presence and visibility during Children’s Ministry and Hope Ankeny events to effectively build relationships within the congregation
  • Attending All Campus Children’s Ministry team meetings, Ankeny and Hope wide staff meetings, and others upon request
  • Developing relationships and interface with other campus’ Children’s Ministry staff

Skills, Education and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in Education, Ministry, or related field
  • Previous experience serving in Children’s Ministry
  • Proven ability to “equip the saints for the work of ministry” (Eph. 4:12)
  • Ability to supervise, inspire, and equip both staff and volunteers in a wide variety of tasks
  • Ability to lead, coordinate, and manage multiple tasks
  • Entrepreneurial spirit – sees organizational roadblocks with optimism
  • Ability to communicate effectively in small and large group settings


Position Details

Requirements: Willing to become a member of Lutheran Church of Hope

Hours: Full Time (40 hours)

Supervisor: Discipleship Pastor – Ankeny Campus

Supervises: HopeKids Coordinator (20 hours)

Pay and Benefits: Commensurate with Position & Experience, based upon National Wage Survey
