PROVIDE CONGREGATIONAL CARE
Come alongside the current pastor to alleviate many of the pastoral care responsibilities. This may include things like counseling, weddings, funerals, hospital visits, baptisms, child dedications, Bible questions, member-to member mediation, church discipline
issues, how-to-know Jesus conversations, etc.
TRAIN THE CONGREGATION TOWARD CONGREGATIONAL CARE
Following the idea in Ephesians 4 that pastors are given for the “training of the saints in ministry” we envision this person not just doing the things in the above paragraph, but training others to do them as well. Ultimately, we’d love for him to raise up
teams of people who minister under his oversight, so that those people use their gifts, and so that they can accomplish more than just what one pastor alone could accomplish.
COMMUNITY GROUPS COORDINATOR
Be the leader, evaluator, and trainer of our community group ministries and the people who lead them. We currently have nine home groups, a men’s study, a women’s study, a high school group, a middle school group, and a college/career group. To be clear,
this pastor wouldn’t be the leader of all of these groups (though he’d probably have one community group that he leads himself) but he would be the shepherd over all these groups helping them operate to their maximum effectiveness. He’d also be responsible
to recruit and train new leaders to start new groups, as we usually need more groups every semester.
Good News Church is a growing nondenominational church in Ocala, Florida. We are reformed in our theology. We are baptist in our practicing of the sacraments. We are contemporary in style. We are simple in our structure and programming.
While not quite fitting in to the seeker-sensitive/attractional church model, we are outward-focused in what we emphasize. You can get a feel for us by visiting our website: www.goodnewsocala.com.
Good News began five years ago with a handful of people and now averages around 500 attendees on a Sunday. Our growth has been fairly consistent in that we’ve added about 100 new people each year. We reach out to people of all different ages, though we usually
skew younger, especially compared to the other churches in our area, due to our style and the fact that our main preacher is in his thirties. There are a lot of families in their 20’s, 30’s, and 40’s. The church is currently led by one pastor and three additional
Ordained or qualified and willing to be ordained
Minimum 3 years full-time pastoral ministry experience
A self-starter with excellent people and communications skills
Preaching skills (will need to be able fill in for the senior pastor at times)
Holding to doctrine similar to what is currently being preached (reformed baptist theology like Matt Chandler, John Piper, etc.)
Compatible to our philosophy of ministry (ie: contemporary but not showy, simple, outward-focused… we are not an Acts 29 church, but we’d fit in with that network just fine.)
