General Description: Give leadership and vision to Crosswinds ongoing discipleship ministry including life development seminars, elective classes, small groups, engagement ministry and special events.
Reports To: Senior Pastor
Spiritual Gifts: Leadership, Teaching, Wisdom, Administration
1. Small Group Ministries: The Pastor of Life Development would support the Director of Small Groups and together seek to recruit, develop and encourage small group leaders.
2. Give leadership, vision and support to the life development seminar leaders.
The Pastor of Life Development would work to develop and implement a specific plan of discipleship that guides people in life skills and habits required to live a wiser and more God-honoring life. Examples of seminars: Financial Peace University, Marriage Enrichment, Understanding the Bible, Dating and Courtship, Parenting, Communication and Conflict Resolution, Understanding Your Wiring, etc.. The goal is to develop a core of life skill seminars that can be repeated systematically. The focus should be to develop leaders rather than to be the leader of every class.
3. Give leadership, vision & support to “Cluster Groups” and Adult Events.
The PLD develops teams to plan and carry out major events that focus on life change. These could include but are not limited to marriage retreats, parenting seminar, men’s or women’s retreat, etc. In addition “Cluster Groups” is a dream to create connection opportunities for different clusters of adults. These clusters would include men, women, couples, groups by ages or life stages (i.e. millenials).
4. Teaching Responsibilities
This Pastor would teach up to 25% of weekend services at the discretion of the Senior Pastor.
5. Engagement Experiences:
It is our dream for Crosswinds not only to develop healthy ministry teams within the church, but to connect our people to serving beyond the church in our community and world. PLD would work to help connect Crosswinds to organizations and serving opportunities in our community. Again, success is not in the pastor leading all the effort, but developing leaders.
6. Give Leadership to Key Growth Transitions/Assimilation
The Pastor of Life Development would develop systems to guide people in three key transitions: seeker to believer, attendee to servant, and unknown to family (relationally connected). Many churches call this assimilation. But the process is longer and more complex than simple assimilation. This is not something we do to people, but guide them towards.
7. Other Responsibilities
Pre-marital and other general Pastoral care will be expected. Long-term counseling relationships are discouraged.
NOTE: The candidate for this position should be a person who likes to develop and implement new strategies. About half of this job description involves helping established ministries to thrive and the remainder is to develop new endeavors succeed. Having an entrepreneurial spirit is a great asset. A tolerance for 'failure" ("that didn't work") is required.
Education and Experience: ideal candidates would have a Masters of Divinity and a long term desire to lead in church ministry.

We are a church located on the northern edge of Rochester, MN (best known as the home of the Mayo Clinic). Crosswinds began in 1997 with a seeker aware/inclusive emphasis that continues along with a desire to help followers of Jesus grow in our devotion, maturity and love. We desire to make changes easily to speak in relevant ways to our culture but hold tightly to the substance of our faith. What does that mean? We will adapt our style, but not our theology. Our attendance is hovering around 500 people per week. We are a loving joy filled More...
