Family Pastor in oversight of youth ministries and children’s departments.
STATUS: Full-time, Salaried
HOURS: 40 Hours per week
General Purpose of Position:
To build disciples for Christ by developing and implementing a comprehensive approach to ministry (in the areas of team building, worship, discipleship, mission, and outreach) while serving as a spiritual leader and role model. This position also includes oversight and involvement in our Children's ministry to create a dynamic, inviting atmosphere geared towards kids.
Organizational Relationship and Supervision:
The Family Pastor is a direct report to the Lead Pastor. While a personal vision and style of ministry is encouraged in the staff it is of utmost importance that the vision of the Lead Pastor be clearly understood and followed to allow for unity and harmony at all levels.
Pleasant Valley has multiple full-time and part-time staff. Unity among the staff is paramount and must be guarded at all costs!
Attendance at the following meetings is required: Weekly Staff Meetings, All weekend services, any leadership and team building meetings. Involvement in special events will be required as well. Must have a good understanding of the Doctrine of the Assemblies of God and stand in agreement.
The Primary Task:
There must be a comprehensive approach to the development and implementation of the youth and children’s ministry. Everything that we do needs to point to the heart of Pleasant Valley, Serve God....Love People....Reach the World.
This comprehensive approach is based on the understanding of the primary task of youth and children’s ministry to:
-love students where they are
-encourage students in developing their relationship to God thought Jesus Christ
-provide them with opportunities for growth both spiritually and socially
-challenge them to respond to God’s call to serve in their communities and world
Be an advocate for students and children and educate the congregation about the hopes, concerns and needs of youth in the local church and community.
Plan, develop, and implement all aspects of a balanced youth ministry in the areas of group building, worship, discipleship, mission, and outreach.
Help plan, develop and implement all aspects of a balanced children’s ministry in tandem with the Pastor and teams already in place.
Mentor youth in developing their leadership skills.
Be aware of resources for developing the youth ministry programming and participate in continuing education events and training opportunities.
Recruit and train volunteers who work with youth in all aspects of youth ministry and ensure adequate volunteer support and adult to youth ratios.
Be a liaison between the church and other community organizations, people, and resources that relate to youth/children and youth/children’s ministries.
Work to effectively reach youth in the community and develop a strategic youth ministry outreach plan.
Keep records of youth participation and manage the youth ministry budget.
Communicate in a timely manner and as effectively as possible using all available resources (email, website, bulletin, newsletter, bulletin board, etc.). Ensure communication with church staff and leadership, parents, and the congregation as a whole.
Make yourself available to students in a variety of ways (i.e. lunch at school, attendance at extracurricular activities, visitation, times of crisis, etc.)
Work together with the gifts and talents of other staff members and maintain a teamwork mentality.
Ensure that the Child Protection Policy is observed in all youth and children’s ministry settings.
Be available to assist the Lead Pastor in various capacities.
Must understand and agree with Assemblies of God Doctrine.
Possess or be in pursuit of Assemblies of God credentials is a plus.
Must have formal education in ministry. (ie. Master’s Commission, Berean, Bible College, etc…) Ministry Degree is a plus.
Must have a workable, humble spirit.
Must have vision and a demonstrated ability to plan, develop, coordinate, manage and implement a youth ministry in harmony with the church as a whole.
Must have excellent written and verbal communication skills, conflict management skills, and computer skills.
Must posses a proven ability to work effectively with youth, diverse individuals, and teams of volunteers.
