The purpose of the Community Church of East Williston is to unite in Christian fellowship through worship of God and service to all persons, those who acknowledge themselves as, or desire to be, followers of Jesus Christ and who propose to live according to His teaching.

Since the beginning, the church was built to be a ‘Community Church’ with no denominational barriers where everyone was welcome. The history of this church is so remarkable that it has been forever documented in a book written by Sarah L. Garth titled, A Light in the Community. The Community Church of East Williston is unique, in that, it is a main line protestant, interdenominational congregation of 150 faithful members who embrace a variety of religious backgrounds. Many of its couples and attendees share mixed faiths and have found comfort in raising their families in a common ground setting, where there are many families with similar histories.

Community Church of East Williston seeks an experienced church leader who is able to meet the challenge of growing a congregation that consists of various Christian denominations. The church is a member of the International Council of Community Churches, and a visionary leader who supports the church mission and community with an emphasis on Christian faith and fellowship will be imperative for this role. Success in this position will be measured primarily by the physical, spiritual, and relational development of the church and its constituents, in alignment with the overall vision, mission and strategic initiatives of Community Church of East Williston.

The successful candidate will lead by word and example, while guiding the church to accomplish the work of Christ. The role of the church in the community is of primary importance, and therefore, this individual must be capable of proclaiming God’s work, teaching, equipping leaders, modeling the church’s mission, and mobilizing resources. This position will play a dual role, as a spiritual leader responsible for the preaching and pastoral ministries of the church, as well as an executive leader who works with the lay leadership in coordinating and administering the ministries of the church.

The ideal candidate will be an ordained minister with a Master of Divinity from a Protestant seminary, and a history of successful experience as a preacher, pastoral care giver, teacher, administrator, and should also be able to conduct a traditional and contemporary worship service, in light of the fact that The Community Church of East Williston may in the future elect to add a contemporary worship service in addition to, and not instead of, its traditional worship service. Core competencies for this position are as follows:

  • A bold visionary.
  • A remarkable aptitude for teaching and speaking in a conversational manner.
  • An exceedingly gifted and adaptable communicator with a natural sense of humor.
  • Unyielding desires to seek, meet, and achieve expectations.
  • Tenacious and proactive result-oriented contributor.
  • An entrepreneur-minded worker with an unusually strong work ethic.
  • Exceptionally relational and intrinsically people-oriented.
  • Agility and proficiency in email and phone communication.

The Church is physically located in East Williston, an incorporated village in Nassau County, New York. East Williston’s population is approximately 2,500 according to the U.S. Census of 2010. The village is rich in history, steeped in tradition and whose residents are truly proud of the place where they live. The school district is one of the top rated districts in New York State. The quaint atmosphere of East Williston is enjoyed by many of its visitors and residents alike. Throughout the years East Williston has remained one of Long Island’s most desirable communities. The church also draws many of its members from a number of surrounding villages including Williston Park, Albertson, Mineola, New Hyde Park and others.
