Job Description:

Director of Modern Worship

Part-time, 29hrs/wk

College time spent in Music or Bible preferred, although not required. College degree/certificate is a plus.

Ward Church is looking for an individual to lead our Modern Worship services. This worship service does music like Elevation, Hillsong, Matt Maher, Bethel, All Sons, Tomlin, Jobe, etc.  We are a church with an emphasis on reformed worship and liturgy (creeds, confessions, Lord’s Prayer, etc) and we also highly value tying in songs and other elements thematically with the sermon topic’s big idea.  Think sort of ancient-future.  This worship service cultivates a celebratory and a meditative space for worshipers.

This Christian must be a people person and more concerned with the things of God and relationships with people than with getting the job done.  We, who are involved in music ministry, have to produce a product each week to help people experience the Lord. We also want to see video and hear some audio of you.  Seeing you lead worship and hearing your musicianship is a key part of this process, as well.  In general, we’re looking for a strong community builder, for a high level of vocal and instrumental musicianship, and lastly to see if you’re highly responsible in your communications with people in person and electronically.

Ward is a Presbyterian church and is part of the EPC (Evangelical Presbyterian Church - epc.org).  Ward currently averages around 1,500-2,000 in attendance every week – half of which are in the Modern services. We are an affluent suburban Detroit community in Northville, MI about 30min west of Detroit.

We realize that with a part-time job, you may need to also have an additional job(s) to help make a full-time income.  We are certainly flexible and can work around schedules from time to time, yet we do have days of the week we need you – Sunday’s obviously, Monday’s for worship planning, and Wednesday’s for rehearsal prep and rehearsal nights.

We would love to hear from you if feel led to investigate this opportunity for ministry employment further.  If you are interested, please send your resume, references and video/audio links to Billy Petty, Director of Worship + Production at billy.petty@wardchurch.org.
