Pastor of Student Ministries – Job Description
Reports To: Senior Pastor
To plan, administer, coordinate, supervise and evaluate a comprehensive and active Student Ministry of Osterville Baptist Church (6-12th grade) and, secondarily, to participate in general pastoral duties.
Ministry Goals and Objectives
Develop and cast vision for a comprehensive discipleship program including fellowship, worship, biblical teaching, discipleship, and evangelism, as well as ministry and mission opportunities.
Teach and train students in the knowledge of the Lord, leading them to be committed followers of Jesus Christ.
Recruit and train volunteer staff as administrators, teachers and leaders for Student Ministries.
Organize and lead retreats and trips for spiritual development of students
Counsel students and their families as needs arise.
Develop and oversee weekly Sunday school program for grades 6-12.
Develop and oversee youth ministry summer intern program.
Integrate youth ministry into all phases of church life creating a culture that is intentionally intergenerational, uniting and complementing other church ministries.
Develop, oversee and implement the annual budget for student ministries.
Serve and lead under the authority of the Senior Pastor and Council of Elders.
Assist in providing care to the members and attendees of Osterville Baptist Church, including but not limited to hospital and home visitation, premarital counseling and weddings, presiding at funerals and offering counsel to the bereaved.
Assist with equipping the Osterville Baptist Church family for ministry to the Barnstable community and beyond.
Participate in the morning worship services; and occasionally leading in special services.
Attend Elders meetings upon request.
Other duties as required.
Personal and Professional Characteristics
Born again, baptized believer who loves the Lord.
Fulfill the scriptural qualifications of a leader according to 1 Timothy 3 and Titus 1.
Demonstrate a clear call to church ministry.
Possess a proficiency in biblical theology and the ability to convey biblical truth to students.
Energetic, enthusiastic, dynamic and Spirit-filled.
Excellent interpersonal communication skills.
Demonstrates a strong desire to pursue professional development with current youth ministry practices.
Affirm the doctrinal statement of Osterville Baptist Church.
Profess the vision and philosophy of Osterville Baptist Church and lead others to vision fulfillment.
Biblical Teaching. Must be able to handle and communicate the Scriptures in a robust and compelling fashion at a level that students can understand and apply.
Relational Leadership. Must be able to work within a group, encourage, motivate and show true compassion for pre-teens and teenagers as well as their families. Must possess abilities in conflict resolution and team building. Must be able to ‘share the spotlight’.
Must possess strong administrative and communication skills and have the ability to plan, set goals, promote events, and organize leadership development.
Bachelors degree in a related field (masters preferred)
3-5 years experience in student ministries
