The Personnel Search Committee of North Valley Church (NVC) is searching for the person God is calling to be the next Pastor of our congregation.
Our story began a commute away in Birmingham, Alabama at South Roebuck Baptist Church. The South Roebuck congregation called Chris Crain, in his late 20s, to serve as Senior Pastor in 2003. Having experienced an intentional interim and a vote to dissolve
a contemporary worship service, the eager people welcomed their new pastor. Chris and Carol Crain moved into the South Roebuck community and adopted their first child, Lauren, within three months.
In 2005, South Roebuck Baptist Church called Michael Etheridge to serve as Associate Pastor. Chris and Michael led twenty-one South Roebuck Church leaders, many of them in their 70s and 80s, to pray: "God, give us the vision to reach the next generation."
The group of twenty-one consulted with George Thomasson, a missionary from the North American Mission Board. After much prayer and research, Chris wrote down and shared the vision for planting a church campus of South Roebuck Baptist Church in St. Clair County.
The South Roebuck Baptist Church agreed that this vision was God’s leadership.
In an act of selfless faith, South Roebuck Baptist Church sent out sixteen leaders, the youngest and brightest, to serve as the core group of the new campus. The group decided on the name “North Valley Church.” The leaders called Russ Donaho to work alongside
Chris Crain and Marisa Taylor in this new endeavor. The three formed the first staff team of North Valley Church. The staff and core group, along with their families, began meeting in the Odenville Elementary School Cafeteria. North Valley Church assembled
an Administrative Council and Deacons to partner with the staff to serve the church.
South Roebuck Baptist Church contacted Dr. Art Fuller of Injoy Stewardship Services. Art worked with the leaders to design a capital fundraising campaign leading to pledges of $850,000 to assist with the launch and construction of North Valley Church. Dawson
Memorial Baptist Church, Shades Mountain Baptist Church, North American Mission Board, Birmingham Baptist Association, St. Clair Baptist Association, and First Baptist Church of Royal Palm Beach Florida were among other partners in resourcing North Valley
Deciding from the outset, "We can't do everything at once and have focused intensity. Let's keep church simple and excellent." North Valley Church began serving the community with home-based Community Group Bible studies during the week and worship on Sunday
mornings. Milam Construction completed Phase One in August of 2007.
Under Michael’s direction, Casey McFarland opened the Early Learning Center and served as the founding director. Chris preached on the campuses of North Valley Church and South Roebuck Church for eight years. Russ led the worship music team, Community Groups,
outreach, and administration.
In a great move of God’s Spirit, North Valley Church reached many families with the Gospel of Jesus Christ. In 2009, Marisa Taylor was appointed to serve as Director of the Early Learning Center. Michael Etheridge became Executive Pastor, serving both campuses.
By 2010, the church was known as the “church for the rest of us.” Many who did not seem to fit in with existing churches discovered North Valley as a place where God’s timeless truth was expressed with humility, grace, and forgiveness. Members and staff began
ministries to reach out to those in need and share the love of Jesus Christ. Other staff leaders were called to serve the children and students of North Valley Church:
The endeavors of the church became known informally as “The Family of Ministries.” The North Valley Church and South Roebuck Baptist Church partnered to launch South Roebuck Community Church in 2011 under the leadership of Jerome Bell. Michael Etheridge
and Gary Fisher started The Chapel in 2012. North Valley Church started the School Program, an afterschool ministry for students of the Margaret Elementary, in 2011 and it moved into the newly constructed Phase Two building in 2012.
In 2014, God called Russ Donaho away to serve on the staff of First Baptist Church, Windermere, Florida. Michael Etheridge was led to accept the new position of Director of Operations of the Birmingham Baptist Association. Chris became the pastor of the
North Valley Church, exclusively. Other North Valley Church leaders stepped into staff ministry roles to advance the mission of “leading people toward connection with God and community with other believers.” The South Roebuck Baptist Church called Gary Fisher
to serve as Pastor of the Birmingham location.
After baptizing hundreds and ministering to thousands, God has positioned the North Valley Church for a remarkable future. The South Roebuck Baptist Church graciously presented the ownership rights for the thirty-acre campus and buildings to the North Valley
Church on April 26, 2015, at a worship service held on the sixtieth anniversary of South Roebuck Baptist Church. After thirteen years of ministry, beginning in 2003 at the original location, Chris announced on July 10, 2016, that he was called by God to resign
as Lead Pastor and to serve as Director of Missions for the St. Clair Baptist Association. God has prepared the way for continued Kingdom growth and ministry in Margaret, Alabama through North Valley Church.
St. Clair County:
St. Clair County is one of the oldest and fastest growing counties in Alabama. It is named after the Pennsylvania General Arthur St. Clair, a hero of the American Revolution. The county is located in the north-central part of the state and is the only county
in Alabama with two county seats. Since its founding on November 20, 1818, the county's citizens have been dedicated to preserving their past and protecting the county's heritage. St. Clair County encompasses beautiful, varied landscapes and covers 417,700
acres (646 square miles). Many of the county roads are dotted with picturesque scenes of white fences, grazing horses, cattle and fields lined with rows of produce. Chandler Mountain in northern St. Clair County is home to one of the largest tomato crops in
the country. There are approximately 50 poultry farms in the county.
One of the St. Clair County's strengths is it location. The county sits 35 miles northeast from Birmingham and approximately 120 miles west from Atlanta, Georgia. Interstates I-59 and I-20 connect with Jefferson, Shelby, Etowah, Blount and Talladega County.
The St. Clair County Economic Development Council has played a primary role in St. Clair County becoming the second fastest growing county in Alabama, with a population of approximately 87,000 citizens. The average household income is a projected $61,000.00,
a 30% increase since 2000 with 38% receiving college courses, associate degree or above. Local development includes Bass Pro Shop, Wal-Mart, Red Diamond, and
Love's Truck and Gas Station. Overseas industries such as Yachiyo Manufacturing in Steele has chosen St. Clair County as their base. New developments in the last five years include the Grand River Development in the Leeds/Moody area, a new St. Vincent's
Hospital and a Veteran's Nursing Home near the Jefferson State Community College Development. A large percentage of the county residents work in services or retail trade. The county remains primarily rural with rapidly, emerging industrial growth.
The St. Clair County Board of Education employs approximately 1,000 teachers, administrators and support personnel and is the largest employer in St. Clair County. Over 66.29% of teachers and administrators have a Master's Degree or higher and 100% of the
teachers are highly qualified. The St. Clair County School System has a reputation for providing numerous and varied educational opportunities for children.
The St. Clair County School System serves the communities of Argo, Ashville, Margaret, Moody, Odenville, Ragland, Springville and Steele with a total of 17 schools with approximately 8,800 students in five elementary schools, one intermediate school, one
jr. high school (7,8), one K-8 school, and five high schools including a K-12 school.
The largest ethnic group is Caucasian at 86% with African-American being the second largest at 10%. Additionally, the Hispanic ethnic group
makes up 4%.
1. Family Focus: The family was designed in Creation before God made any other organization-implying its primary place in the heart of God (Genesis 2:18-25). The church must support, equip, & encourage the family.
2. Biblical Authority: The Bible is the authoritative document prescribing God's will to for His people - superseding any traditions or laws of any other source (2 Timothy 3:16).
3. Strategic Service: God created every Christian to do works of service for the benefit of God's Kingdom and the Gospel (Ephesians 2:10).
4. Dynamic Worship: True worship involves receiving Truth from God and responding accordingly. Dynamic worship involves a range of expressions and emotions, while always centering on the Glory of God, not the desires of people (John 4:24).
5. Life Transformation: Genuine conversion is the beginning of a life-long process of becoming more like Jesus Christ (Hebrews 12:2).
6. Authentic Community: Christians are created and commanded to live in unified community with one another for the purposes of mutual growth and spreading the Gospel (Romans 12:4-8).

The Mission of our Lead Pastor:
To be the example for the North Valley Church core values by leading people toward connection with God and community with all believers.
The Lead Pastor will teach God’s Word and lead people toward connection with God and community with other believers. The Lead Pastor will serve as the “first among equals” on the Administrative Council. Before selection as the Lead Pastor, an individual
must for an extended period of time prior to his calling give evidence of the spiritual maturity, service, devotional life, and leadership ability that is required for the position, and possess other qualifications as outlined in 1 Timothy 3:1-7; 5:17-22.
JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Develop and communicate the vision and strategy of North Valley Church
- Invest substantial time into a vital relationship with Jesus Christ
- Get the right people in the right positions to carry out the vision of North Valley Church
- Communicate in an appropriate and timely fashion via email and other forms of communication with staff and volunteers
- Invest substantial time into developing as a leader and person
- Provide clear vision and leadership so that the staff can effectively lead North Valley Church
- Provide vision and ultimate oversight of worship experiences
- Develop relationships with community and church leaders
- Visit other churches and attend conferences that will increase the vision and ministry of North Valley Church
- Serve as a voting member of the Administrative Council
- Lead the Administrative Council and all Staff Meetings according to the bylaws and policies in place
- Oversee the operations, budget, and facilities of North Valley Church
- Provide leadership to the calendar and functions of North Valley Church
- Partner with the Early Learning Center leadership and serve on the board of the Early Learning Center to provide general guidance
- As the primary communicator, teach for life change on Sunday mornings
- Arrange for additional communicators as needed
- Participate in the creative process as it relates to Sunday morning
- Prayerfully prepare an annual teaching calendar
- Maintain God-ordained priorities by putting Jesus Christ first, spouse second, children third and ministry fourth
- Give at least 10% of personal income to the vision of North Valley Church
- Be loyal to the vision and staff of North Valley Church and always protect the unity of the church
- Invest and invite the lost to know Jesus and come to North Valley Church
- Provide vision and leadership for the Community Group System
- Incorporate new members, attendees, disenfranchised attendees, and others into the Community Group Ministry of North Valley Church.
- Develop a plan to disciple new leaders and potential leaders using appropriate materials
