Cherokee Hills Christian Church (CHCC) is part of the historic movement of the Independent Christian Churches and Instrumental Churches of Christ. It has sustained a strong vision and track record for biblical teaching and witnessing since its founding in 1963. Throughout its 53-year history, there have been over 1,050 baptisms at Cherokee Hills and countless lives have been positively impacted for Christ.

From the initial meeting on a Sunday in 1963, God has provided guidance for spiritual development, physical expansion, and numerical increase, as well as the expansion of staff, facilities, and new programs. CHCC was instrumental in starting Town and Country Christian Church in Yukon, Oklahoma and the North Side Christian Church in Oklahoma City. The reputation of CHCC in the community is solid, and the church continues to expand ministry into the surrounding community, the nation, and the world.

CHCC seeks a Lead Minister to lead them into the next 50 years of service for Christ. This individual will model servant leadership, while developing and articulating vision that motivates the body at CHCC to passionately pursue a growing relationship with Jesus Christ. As a visionary leader, this individual will lead outreach efforts to the unchurched in the Oklahoma City area and beyond, in order to bring many new believers to a saving knowledge in Jesus Christ, leading to an increase in baptisms. Responsibilities of the Lead Minister will include weekly preaching, spiritual leadership, and working closely with Elders and staff to plan and execute our vision/purpose for the future; teaching, reaching, and working with our Elders, staff and congregation to take the Good News of Jesus Christ to our community.

The successful candidate will, at a minimum, hold a bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university, with some formal seminary or biblical training. An advanced degree in biblical studies, theology, or divinity is preferred, but not required. His theology will align with that of the CHCC family and that of the Independent Christian Church Restoration Movement tradition. The successful candidate will have a proven track record of at least 10 years as a pastor in a leadership role. He will be passionate about reaching the unreached and have been successful at recruitment and retention of new believers. Furthermore, the candidate will have had experience working as an effective leader of ministry teams, instilling vision and mobilizing leaders in a church of 250 attendees or greater.

The successful Lead Minister will have a proven record of being a gifted teacher and an effective leader and communicator in a leadership position at a growing church. In addition, the individual will show strong interpersonal relationship skills and character traits that include humility, approachability, teachability, and authenticity, alongside an ability to connect well with people of diverse ages and backgrounds. He will be a strong proponent of externally focused ministry, missions, and small group relationships. Success in this role will be measured by consistent and continuing progress toward the following objectives:

  • Increased number of baptisms per year
  • Spiritual and relational development evidenced among believers
  • CHCC members sharing their faith in the community
  • Expanded church demographic that reflects more diversity
  • Increased number of young families
  • Regular attendance of 500+ with many unchurched from the neighborhood attending CHCC
  • Mentored, motivated, and equipped staff
  • A congregation that is excited and engaging in the future of CHCC

CHCC is located in northwest Oklahoma City, a vibrant region of 1.3 million with one of the strongest and most diverse economies across the nation. OKC offers the perfect mix of big city and small town. When one visits Oklahoma City, they will find friendly people, fresh and clean air, easy commutes, affordable cost of living, and more than 300 days of sunshine per year that contributes to a strong sense of community. With a downtown urban renaissance, quaint neighborhoods, a thriving arts scene, seemingly endless recreational opportunities with abundant parks and lakes, Oklahoma City has something for everyone. The Oklahoma City metro area offers professional sports (NBA’s Oklahoma City Thunder), college sports (Oklahoma University and a host of smaller universities), outdoor activities, lakes, hunting, fishing, camping, golfing, and cultural events, set in the heart of the state. The city was ranked among the Most Affordable Cities (2016), the Fastest Growing Cities (2015), one of the Best States to Make a Living (2014), and a Retirement Destination (2014) in Forbes Magazine.
