Job Description:


Provide overall leadership to the Kids + Students Ministry by creating, implementing, assessing, and innovating a
consistent vision for Mars Hill Kids + Students (MHKS). This role includes leading the MHKS staff, serving the parents
of kids and students, and informing the broader community of childhood, adolescent and emerging adult issues.
1. Creating and implementing a consistent, comprehensive vision for Kids + Students Ministries (10% work load)
 Engaging and overseeing Kids + Student Ministry Staff in the development of theological and
developmentally sound curriculum and programming
 Carefully aligning the vision for Kids + Students Ministry with the larger missional identity and purposes of
Mars Hill
 Representing the Kids + Students Ministry and its vision to staff, volunteers, and parents
 Leading, planning and facilitating regular/weekly MHKS meetings
2. Leading, coaching, and developing the Kids + Students Ministry staff (40% work load)
 Investing in each staff member individually and as a team, providing vision, direction, standards, and
 Regularly evaluate individual performance in informal conversation and formal performance reviews,
providing opportunities for growth and training and coaching individuals in areas where performance
improvements are necessary
 Leading individuals or the team through necessary change, managing both the process and expectations
 Participating in signature Kids + Student programs and events
 Collaborating with age-specific pastors in volunteer training events for Kids + Student ministries
 Training staff members to develop and lead high functioning teams
 Coaching staff members in pastoral and relational approaches to ministry
 Leading efforts to recruit, connect, and shepherd volunteers serving in the ministry
 Overseeing and maintaining budgeted resources for each ministry in the Kids + Student program
3. Participating as a fully invested member of the larger Mars Hill teams (15% of work load)
 Collaborating with Mars Hill Pastors and Staff in the ongoing development and refinement of
organizational vision, mission, key strategies, and values
 Working closely with Student and Community Life/Young Adult ministries to ensure care during
transitions into emerging adulthood toward adulthood
 Providing pastoral care, crisis management, crisis intervention, and resource connection
 Anticipating and responding to the crisis and care needs of those in your care
 Carrying out pastoral responsibilities [as needed] such as: weddings, funerals, child dedication services,
baptisms, pastoral appointments, visitations, mentoring, Sunday care, and on-call responsibilities
(approximately 5-7 days/year)
 Availability and presence on Sunday mornings, providing proactive and responsive care
 Training other staff and volunteer pastors in a specific area of expertise
4. Leading in the oversight and creation of opportunities for parents of kids and students (30% of work load)
 Setting vision, goals and expectations of ministries for parents of kids and students
 Leading and developing parenting classes for fall and spring seasons
 Collaborating with Community Life to lead, create and facilitate life/faith milestone experiences for all
ages (i.e., child dedication, baptism, etc.)
5. Providing Limited Community-Wide Teaching (as gifted - 5% work load)
 Participating with the Sunday team to create Sunday morning teachings and services
 Exploring, researching, studying and preparing teachings and services
 Demonstrating excellent communication skills and the ability to engage all learning styles
 A worldview that is aligned with the vision, mission, directions, and narrative theology of Mars Hill
 Able to synthesize and think critically about theological, developmental, and sociological issues associated with
the church and families.

 Able to understand, appreciate, and implement collaborative transitions with MH Kids, MH Students, Young
Adult, and Community Life ministries.
 Demonstrates a deep and consistent rule of life for all things formational.
 Proven ability to lead, modeling a way of life (philosophies and conduct) that inspires others to follow.
 Values a healthy, holistic lifestyle.
 A Master’s Degree in a ministry-related field (theological and/or psychological background preferred)
 Minimum of 5 to 7 years in leadership role for a large church or organization successfully leading pastors
and directors
 Passion for excellence in both verbal and written communications
 Ability to frame ideas in creative ways that stir interest and capture the attention of parents
 Demonstrated success in building, leading, and managing teams of both staff and volunteers
 Ability to thrive in a highly relational environment, deriving energy from and drawing others into
 Ability to engage difficult issues and individuals, courageously speaking the truth and confronting where
 Passion for and proven experience in developing others, bringing the best out of leaders who lack
organizational experience; providing strategic, effective, and viable organizational solutions; and constructing
compelling development plans to guide leaders and ministry area
 Passionate spirit for exploration, innovation, and change
Team Leader: Lead Pastor
Payroll Status: Salaried, exempt
Office Hours: Sunday 8:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. and 5:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m.
Regular office hours Monday – Thursday
Other times as scheduled
