Job Description:

 United Church of Marco Island Director of Retail Marketing and Church Outreach

The Director of Retail Marketing and Church Outreach will report to the Senior Minister and will interact with the Bargain Basket Staff and Bargain Basket Committee at the direction of the Senior Minister. The Director will attend monthly staff meetings. For the first three months of employment and at other scheduled times thereafter, the Director will meet weekly with the Vice-Moderator (Chair of Board of Church Growth) for the purpose of guidance and effective time management.

Bargain Basket Responsibilities

  1. 1.      Advertising and Marketing

The Director will be responsible for implementing a comprehensive plan for advertising consistent with the Bargain Basket advertising budget. This plan will include:

  1. newspaper advertising
  2. online advertising including constant contact to customers who provide their email address to us
  3. local advertising in the community
  4. advertising to the United Church family in bulletins, newsletters, etc.  
  5. signage, in-store brochures, and handouts
  6. branding
  7. contact with local non-profit groups about the mission of the Bargain Basket
  8. any other advertising and marketing initiatives that will enhance the Bargain Basket’s sales and/or identity in the local community

 

  1. 2.       Sales Strategies

In collaboration with the Senior Minister and Bargain Basket Manager, the Director will be responsible for developing an ongoing plan for strategic-themed sales and holiday sales strategies at the Bargain Basket. Gleaning insight from automated reports and other sources, the Director shall develop Bargain Basket sales strategies that will take into consideration timing, frequency, promotional tactics, and merchandise to be on sale.

 

  1. 3.       Mission Partnerships

The Director shall also develop mission partnerships with local, national, and international organizations in need of specific items and merchandise. The Director shall develop a plan for mission merchandise and shall be responsible for recording totals regarding merchandise given away and reporting those totals to the Financial Assistant. The Director shall oversee the Bargain Basket’s mission budget so as to be a good steward of all mission and shipping endeavors.

 

  1. 4.       Online Sales

The Director will be responsible for all online sales and marketing of online sales. The Director will also be responsible for identifying and preparing merchandise to be sold online.

 

  1. 5.       Bridging of United Church and the Bargain Basket

The Director shall advertise the ministry and promotions of the Bargain Basket to United Church. The Director shall also advertise the ministry of United Church to Bargain Basket volunteers and customers. The Director shall be a visible presence in both communities and shall communicate and implement strategies that will further bridge the relationship between the church and the store.

United Church Responsibilities

  1. 1.      Advertising and Marketing

The Director shall collaborate with the church’s Administrative Assistant to implement a comprehensive plan for church advertising consistent with United Church’s advertising budget. This plan will include:

  1. newspaper advertising
  2. online advertising
  3. local advertising in the community
  4. advertising United Church to Bargain Basket customers and volunteers
  5. signage and branding
  6. all other advertising initiatives that will enhance United Church’s visibility on Marco Island and the growing 951 area of Naples

 

  1. 2.      Website and Social Media

The Director shall collaborate with the church’s Administrative Assistant to execute all of United Church’s social media efforts including but not limited to United Church’s Facebook and Twitter accounts, regularly updating those accounts with fresh content. (Note: The Church’s Administrative Assistant shall be responsible for all clerical updating of the church website such as online calendar updates, posting sermons, posting newsletters, etc.)

 

  1. 3.      Special Print Media

The Director shall collaborate with the church’s Administrative Assistant in assisting to produce all of United Church’s special print-media efforts. As much as possible, the Director should make use of United Church’s dynamic, new color copier and United Church’s dynamic, new Canon camera. Special print media efforts will include (but not be limited to) the following:

  1. the Music Committee’s annual brochure for concert series and Naples Philharmonic series
  2. the Women’s Fellowship annual booklet of events
  3. the Education Committee’s annual Vacation Bible School brochure
  4. the Budget Committee’s annual stewardship mailing with pictures and graphics
  5. all special print media  promoting the launch of United Church’s new 8:15AM worship service (Date TBD)
  6. the Stephen Ministry’s prayer request/ visit cards
  7. the 50th Anniversary Committee’s brochure for events
  8. the 50th Anniversary Committee’s historical booklet
  9. the 50th  Anniversary Committee’s capital campaign promotion mailing
