First Presbyterian Church of Tampa is a Christ-centered, Presbyterian Church. We love God and God’s gift of life as we learn what it means for us to be followers of Jesus.

FPC Tampa was founded in downtown Tampa in 1884, 132 years ago. Like many of America’s downtown churches, FPC Tampa experienced decline in the last decades of the 20th century. However, 17 years ago the church took the necessary risks to launch contemporary worship, and from that attractional centerpiece, the congregation began a successful revitalization.

The leadership of FPC Tampa is taking a fresh and exciting look at what it means for FPC Tampa to be a church that “makes disciples who make disciples.” The church is enthusiastic about fine-tuning its DNA, and have spent considerable energy on growing the culture of the congregation. The church anticipates building and revising systems that grow leaders who lead people in such a way, so as to see their neighborhoods, homes and jobs as their ‘mission fields.’ FPC Tampa desires to be a congregation that is focused on reaching people, including teenagers, who are far from God. It seeks to grow ever more clear about discipleship, going deep in its faith with those who are a part of the FPC Tampa family.

The Director of Student Ministry will facilitate student growth within the context of a sustained relationship with Jesus Christ by providing strategic leadership to the programming, staff, and volunteers of the ministry.

The Director of Student Ministry will be required, not only to maintain the size of the current middle and high school ministries, but to ensure its perpetual growth both numerically and spiritually. This individual will work with both the students as well as their parents, providing strong leadership, while building and leading stronger volunteer teams. They will ensure student growth, reconnection, and engagement within a relevant and practical ministry.

The successful candidate for this position will be highly relational with a pioneering spirit and a willingness to nurture, expand, and maximize the potential of student life at FPC Tampa. They will possess 5+ years in a full-time leadership role in a Student Ministry environment in a large church. They will complement the unique environment and esteemed culture of Tampa, and embrace the community and its surrounding regions.

  • Ability to work independently and as a team member.
  • Ability to initiate and implement plan of action.
  • Industriousness in use of time and resources.
  • Dynamic communication capabilities that translate to weekend teaching.
  • Evidence of aforementioned experience, skills, and giftedness, which can provide the basis for successfully achieving the purpose of the position.
