Status: Exempt

Reports To: Executive Pastor                      





The primary role of the Pastor to Young Families & Children is to lead the overall implementation of engaging and equipping families with the gospel, connecting them in authentic community, and leading them to serve others as an expression of what love requires.




Vision & Leadership (45%)

  • Seek Christ, be a student of His word, and allow the Holy Spirit to guide the vision of the Fondren Church Children’s Ministry
  • Recognizing that the responsibility to disciple children rests primarily with the parents, create an approach to assist and equip parents in introducing the gospel and making disciples with their children in a simple and age-appropriate manners
  • Lead the family ministry team that assists in executing the overall visual of the church through the passion of the families
  • Be a shepherd to those who serve and participate within the ministry
  • Work with and on-behalf-of the leadership of Fondren Church to ensure the mission, vision, and values of Fondren Church are upheld
  • Recruit, develop, and empower others to lead groups/classes/sessions of both kids and families
  • Establish and maintain relationships with the neighbor children and families and develop an approach to incorporate both the children and families into our span of care



Planning & Execution (45%)

  • Develop and lead teams who facilitate effective and fun weekly gatherings for children (birth – 5th grade) that reinforce the gospel narrative
  • Schedule gatherings or classes to equip parents in specific areas of discipleship
  • Create a culture of serving others and the community through regular service opportunities and a family-friendly mission trip
  • Evaluate, select, schedule, coordinate, and communicate ministry-specific retreats, and/or conferences for the staff, leaders, or volunteers
  • Be the liaison between the Family Ministry and the Fondren Church staff and leadership teams
  • Actively identify and engage families who attend our weekly service but are not connected in our Family Ministry
  • Look for on-going opportunities of personal development and training
  • Accurately manage the Family Ministry budget

Competencies, Experience and Education:  To perform this role successfully, an individual must have the diverse skill-set to perform each essential duty and responsibility satisfactorily including but not limited to:

  • Mature Christ-follower
  • Able to work closely with the staff of Fondren Church to carry out the mission and uphold the values of Fondren Church
  • Extremely well-organized and self-directed
  • Possess strong communication skills, both orally and written
  • A team player
  • Confident in recruiting and leading volunteers
  • Capable of working with a diverse and growing congregation
  • Proven leadership skills
  • Experienced and passionate about family ministry
  • Able to organize and execute ideas, systems, and processes
  • Minimum of a Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university
  • 3-5 years of ministry experience preferred
