Title: Coordinator of Family Ministries

Reports to: Lead Pastor

Annual Salary: $30,000, no additional benefits

Time Commitment:  Varies seasonally.  Expected 3/4 time position. 

Position Summary:

The Coordinator of Family Ministries will provide vision, energy, oversight and leadership for all aspects of ministry with children and youth from nursery through high school.

The Coordinator will encourage and support parents to raise their children in faithful response to God.

The Coordinator will foster faith development by revealing the power and promises of God to our children, youth and families, encouraging them to grow in their relationship to Him, and guiding them to share their faith with others.  

The Coordinator will embrace and communicate the congregation’s mission “To be transformed as we follow Jesus daily, leading others to do the same.”

Qualifications and Skills:

* A Bachelor’s degree is preferred

* Prior experience in family or youth ministry is preferred

  • Ability to recruit and train volunteers from within the congregation
  • Strong organizational and communication skills
  • Creativity and the desire to “think outside the box”
  • Understand and teach in alignment with our Lutheran heritage
  • Recognize the need for affirmation and encouragement
  • Possess an outgoing personality
  • Ability to speak publicly with confidence
  • Know the value of each person and welcome them as unique creations of God

Responsibilities and Duties

* Create, develop and coordinate age appropriate activities & programs for all children and youth

  • Maintain and update a roster of children and youth eligible to participate in the various ministries, including those who are not members of Desert Hope
  • Encourage all children and youth to be involved regularly
  • Provide for parental connection and involvement
  • Seek, train and equip volunteers from the congregation to be engaged in specific tasks and activities
  • Report regularly to the Pastor (weekly) and to the Leadership Council (monthly)
  • Provide regular ministry updates and needs to the congregation 
  • Develop and implement opportunities for family/parental enrichment 
  • Schedule activities in coordination with the other ministries of the congregation
  • Work intentionally with other congregations on common ministries
  • Develop relationships with appropriate leaders in the community DHLC Coordinator of Family Ministries - Anticipated Activities: 

. 1)  Guide and facilitate ministries for children from birth through high school 

. 2)  Establish a comprehensive, age-appropriate plan for spiritual development 

. 3)  Cultivate a highly motivated, passionate, well-trained volunteer staff and equip them to do ministry 

. 4)  Set standards and expectations for volunteers.

. 5) Implement  processes to ensure safety (background checks, safe church etc.) 

. 6)  Ensure nursery is appropriately staffed

. 7)  Provide direction, oversight, and hands-on leadership to the Sunday children's program, ensuring that curriculum has been ordered, schedule set, teachers are trained and in place, and supplies are maintained 

. 8)  Provide direction, oversight, and hands-on leadership to the Youth Program, ensuring that programs are organized, fully staffed
and implemented 

. 9)  Coordinate special events, camps, mission trips, and other activities; providing pertinent information to children, youth and parents 

. 10) Develop a team to facilitate Vacation Bible School program; providing additional volunteer training 

. 11)  Prepare and submit annual budget for All Children and Family Ministries
