Purpose of Position (Strategic Objective)
The purpose of this position is to serve within CoRE as ACF’s “owner” of leadership development across all communities.  The person will be responsible for coordinating ACF’s “church planting” initiatives and, in working closely with the Sr. Pastor and Executive Pastor, facilitating the training and leadership development efforts of the prospective community pastors and ACF’s volunteer leaders across all communities.  The individual serves on the CoRE Management Team and will function in a cross-functional role to assist in ministry enablement. 

General Summary
The CoRE Director of Leadership Development will translate the Overseer’s and Senior Pastor’s vision for leadership development into workable processes and methodologies that produce leadership maturity in ACF’s volunteer leaders.  Under the guidance of the Senior Pastor and Executive Pastor, he/she will oversee the implementation process and provide guidance to those responsible for Groups leaders within all communities.

Critical Functions and Responsibilities
1.     “Prospective” Community Pastor Development. The CoRE Director of Leadership Development will “own” the development of the methodologies, processes and procedures necessary to prepare “potential” community pastors to become ACF Community Pastors. 
2.     Groups Leadership Development. The CoRE Director of Leadership Development will be responsible for developing the means by which Groups leaders become better equipped to serve as the de facto pastors across all ACF communities.  This may include curriculum selection, development and/or recommendation for group studies and periodic (weekly) leadership meetings for the purpose of growing more mature leaders. 
3.     Church Planting. The CoRE Director of Leadership Development will work closely with the Senior Pastor and Executive Pastor in developing and executing ACF’s church planting strategy; which will likely coordinate in concert with the Austin Movement’s city-wide church planting efforts.
4.     Participate in the Community Pastors Meetings.   The CoRE Director of Leadership Development will be a standing member of the weekly/monthly CP meetings.  He/she may be asked by the Sr. Pastor to call these meetings, set the agenda, ensure participation and determine ensuing action items. 
5.     Teaching.  The CoRE Director of Leadership Development may teach as requested by the Senior Pastor.
6.     Supervision of Direct Reports.   The CoRE Director of Leadership Development will serve as the direct report for those staff members who may be added to the CoRE Leadership Development Team.  He/she will be responsible for:
  • Ensuring that each staff member has a current, written, agreed-upon performance plan.
  • Meeting with each team member on a regular basis to lead, train, and inspire healthy Leadership growth.
  • Performing periodic written and oral evaluations of each team member.
  • Making sure that each team member manages their budget well.


Additional Functions and Responsibilities

1.     To equip Groups leaders who are the de facto pastors of ACF to become better, more mature leaders
2.     To provide oversight to the curriculum studied by ACF groups
3.     To address the need of ACFers who long for a leadership-oriented and/or “meatier” studies by providing  periodic opportunities tailored to leadership development and discipleship
4.     To raise the overall leadership effectiveness of ACF by increasing the maturity of its leaders and group members
5.     To participate in the CP meetings and to teach or select teachers for the periodic leader meetings
6.     To choose, develop and/or provide curriculum choices for those responsible for Groups leaders
7.     Be an active participant in the Austin city-wide movement, specifically as it relates to church planting

8.     Performs special projects as requested by the Senior or Executive Pastors



Preferred Leadership Gifts: Leadership, Shepherding, Teaching, Administration or Exhortation

Scope of responsibility:  This CoRE Director of Leadership Development would serve on the CoRE Management Team and be responsible for facilitating the development of community pastors and prospective community pastors, coordinating ACF’s church planting initiatives, and establishing the leadership development methodology for ACF volunteer leaders across all communities.

Minimum skills and knowledge required:

  1. Must have a strong biblical knowledge.
  2. Must have the moral and Leadership qualifications as described in 1 Timothy 3.
  3. Must be a proven leader who can build consensus and mobilize support around a vision.
  4. Must have a strong desire to serve other team members and help them to succeed.
  5. Must have extensive experience in church planting.
  6. Must have good teaching and communication skills.
  7. Must have some knowledge of church management theory and practice.
  8. Must have strong, proven experience in developing a Leadership development strategy.

Skills and knowledge preferred:

  1. Have excellent proficiency in understanding and applying biblical truth, principals and concepts.
  2. Have excellent teaching and communication skills.
  3. Have good knowledge of church management theory and practice.
  4. Have exceptional experience in developing a Leadership development strategy.



Minimum previous experience required:
15 years of Ministry experience

Previous experience preferred:
20+ years of Ministry experience

Minimum education required: Bachelors

Education preferred: Masters of Divinity/Theology

Minimum communication skills required:

  1. Must have excellent interpersonal skills – able to communicate persuasively and compassionately both orally and in writing.
  2. Must be able to teach/preach effectively.
  3. Must be effective at accomplishing church-wide goals by working across all communities

Communication skills preferred:
