Purpose of Position (Strategic Objective)
The purpose of this position is to serve as ACF’s “owner” of developing worship leaders across all communities.  The person will be responsible for overseeing ACF’s worship leaders and, in working closely with the CoRE Leadership Development Director and the Sr. Pastor, facilitating the training and leadership development efforts of the community worship leaders and volunteers across all communities.  The individual serves on the CoRE Team and will function in a cross-functional role to assist in ministry enablement. 


General Summary
The CoRE Worship Director will translate the Overseer’s and Senior Pastor’s vision for leading worship into workable processes and methodologies that produce spiritual maturity in ACF’s community worship leaders.  Under the guidance of the CoRE Leadership Development Director and the Senior Pastor, he/she will oversee the equipping process and provide guidance to those responsible for leading worship within all communities.


Critical Functions and Responsibilities


1.     Worship Leaders’ Development. The CoRE Worship Director will develop the means by which community worship leaders become better equipped to serve their respective Community Pastors (CP) and community.  This may include periodic group and/or one-on-one mentoring/training sessions for the purpose of growing more spiritually mature worship leaders. 


2.     Worship Philosophy. The CoRE Worship Director should understand worship and how it attracts the presence of God.  He/she should see the goal of singing or music as getting into God’s presence versus great music alone as an end unto itself. The CoRE Worship Director should be one who can discern the Spirit’s flow in a service and adjust to it.


3.     Teaching / Mentoring.  The CoRE Worship Director should be able to share, mentor, coach and teach the community worship leaders how to inculcate the above “worship philosophy” into their community’s worship service.


4.     Supervision of Direct Reports (if any).   The CoRE Worship Director will serve as the direct report for those staff members who may be added to the CoRE Worship Director Team.  He/she will be responsible for:
  • Ensuring that each staff member has a current, written, agreed-upon performance plan.
  • Meeting with each team member on a regular basis to lead, train, and inspire healthy spiritual growth.
  • Performing periodic written and oral evaluations of each team member.
  • Making sure that each team member manages their budget well.


Additional Functions and Responsibilities


1.     To better equip the community worship leaders


2.     To provide oversight to the worship leading role with across all communities


3.     To raise the level of anointed worship within ACF by increasing the overall spiritual maturity of our community worship leaders


4.     Be an active participant in the Austin city-wide movement, specifically as it relates to leading worship


5.     Performs special projects as requested by the Senior Pastor or CoRE Leadership Development Director




Preferred Spiritual Gifts:  Music, Leadership, Shepherding or Exhortation


Scope of responsibility:  This CoRE Worship Director would serve on the CoRE Team and be responsible for developing community worship leaders and overseeing ACF’s worship across all communities.


Minimum skills and knowledge required:

  1. Must have the moral and spiritual qualifications as described in 1 Timothy 3; elder-level qualifications.
  2. Must be a proven leader who can build consensus and mobilize support around a vision.
  3. Must have a strong desire to serve other team members and help them to succeed.
  4. Must be a seasoned leader with extensive experience (20 years) in leading worship.
  5. Must have good teaching, mentoring and communication skills.
  6. Must have a broad range of experience; one who has led in both small and large settings and is comfortable with different music styles.
  7. Must be a very skilled musician, who can make our artists better musicians.

Skills and knowledge preferred:



Minimum previous experience required:
15 years of Worship Leadership experience

Previous experience preferred:
20+ years of Worship Leadership experience


Minimum education required: Bachelors, or commensurate experience

Education preferred: Masters, or commensurate experience


Minimum communication skills required:

  1. Must have excellent interpersonal skills – able to communicate persuasively and compassionately both orally and in writing.
  2. Must be an effective coach.
  3. Must be effective at accomplishing church-wide goals by working across all communities
