The role of an effective senior pastor at Hope Church consists of three major facets: missional leader, congregational shepherd, and biblical preacher-teacher. A candidate with the gifts of strong leadership, pastoral guidance, and passionate preaching is desired.

The senior pastor is responsible for leading, mobilizing and equipping church members to reach non-churched people. He must be committed to evangelism, understanding the church's cultural context.  He must have the ability to discern members’ gifts and strengths, leading and mentoring within the church's cultural context to impact the community with the gospel.  He should exhibit an ability to relate and connect multi-generationally and cross-culturally.

The senior pastor is responsible for shepherding the congregation. He must make disciples, lead the church in spiritual disciplines, provide pastoral counseling, oversee the church ordinances of baptism and communion, and visit with the congregation upon request or as needed. He must seek the unity of a multi-generational and diverse congregation.

The senior pastor is responsible for preaching and teaching the Bible. He must have demonstrated verbal and written communication skills. He is expected to preach inspiring sermons that are expository and deeply relevant to daily life. He is expected to teach the Bible in various church venues as needed. He will likely hold a Bachelor's degree from an accredited university. Advanced training or a seminary degree, such as a Master of Divinity, is strongly preferred.

The senior pastor is responsible for the proper stewardship of day-to-day church operations. He will have oversight experience of church staff, ministry programs, and administrative processes. He must be organized, task focused, and relationally skilled. He will serve as first among equals on the board of elders.
