Job Description Pastor of Student Ministries
First Baptist Church of Elgin
POSITION STATUS: Full-Time Regular—Exempt
The Full-Time Pastor of Student Ministries will support the organization and ministries of First Baptist Church of Elgin by exhibiting conduct and character as described below.
QUALITY AND CHARACTER:
He/She must be a person of spiritual insight and commitment;
Who demonstrates character described in I Tim. 3:1-7 and Galatians 5:22-26;
Who is familiar with the Christian scriptures and the history of the Christian Church,
Who is skilled in counseling and in the supervision of staff.
JOB SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE:
Affirmed in youth ministry and who has a rapport with youth
Exhibits creativity and is flexible in developing programs for youth
Has a practical understanding of today’s youth culture
Values the use of technology and various art forms in communicating with youth
2-5 years’ experience serving in the local church
Prior experience in a full-time multi-staff environment is preferred
Degree in youth ministry or related field
Develop programs that are biblically based and culturally relevant for today’s youth
Responsible for Jr High (6-8th) and Sr. High (9th-12th)
Recruit, train and develop adult volunteers in youth ministry.
Staff Sunday morning classes, Sunday evening meetings and special events throughout the year
Establish rapport with the parents of youth and seek ways to add value to the entire family unit
Build a sense of community among our youth and to help them understand that they are part of a larger church family community where their ideas are valued
Support summer camps and mission opportunities that are important components in shaping spiritual lives of our youth
Develop and manage an annual budget for youth
EVALUATION AND COMPENSATION:
The Pastor of student ministries is accountable to and evaluated by the Executive Pastor.
This is a full-time position (40+ hours a week with full benefits package). Salary is based by qualifications and experience.
