Director of Children's Ministry (12142)

Position Summary:

The Director of Children’s Ministry is called to lead, develop and implement a creative children's program underneath our Saturday and Sundayweekend worship opportunities. These opportunities are a place for children from preschool through 5th grade to hear about Jesus in a manner and language that they can relate to and understand.  Our great desire is for kids to be so loved in Jesus name that they can’t wait to come back on the next weekend.

The DOCM will also have responsibility for our yearly children's camp which serves 400+ children and attracts 200+ middle/high school leaders and 80 adult leaders to serve in multiple capacities.  Our children's camp is currently the most significant outreach we do all year long and has great favor in the local community.

Finally, this role has an important family life component as there is a great opportunities to connect families to the church through their children's participation in the church and camp. The DOCM will create regular experiences for parents to help develop them into the primary disciple-makers of their children.

Performance Responsibilities

Leader/Team Development:

  • All church staff members are hired with the expectation that they build highly effective teams and develop leaders who are competent and committed in their unique ministry areas.  In the case of the DOCM: children’s ministry and camp.  This includes teams with a heart for nursery, preschool, elementary and early adolescents.
  • Middle/High school students often serve in the capacity as junior leaders and so the ability to communicate with teens, indirectly disciple them and graft them into the team by pairing them with appropriate adult leaders is a necessary skill set.

Develop age-appropriate strategies:

  • Develop a curriculum that teaches children essentials of the gospel, the scriptures and do so in way that captures their imagination based on their current mental/emotional development.
  • Each age group needs to be met with the gospel where they are and given what they can understand.

Family Life Responsibilities:

  • Develop periodic service opportunities for children as well as children and their families.
  • Design and deploy quarterly family life experiences where kids and their families connect with other kids and their families.
  • Address educational opportunities on parenting, cultural issues confronting children (social media) as well as initiatives that help parents play more of a hands-on role in teaching their kids about Jesus, through both information as well as imitation.

Personal Characteristics and Requirements:

  • Commitment to Jesus Christ (deep personal faith and devotional life)
  • A passionate love for working with children preschool through 5th grade
  • Solid commitment to the authority of Scripture
  • Warm, encouraging personality that connects well with children
  • Clear personal and professional vision
  • Good recruiter and team builder
  • Able to work well with wider staff team
  • Sets example and serves as a role model in personal life
