First Baptist Church Jackson is not a building, but a committed fellowship of believers. The church has established itself as a flagship of the SBC network, long since its inception in 1838. FBCJ is Christ centered, pastor led, deacon served, and committee approved within a framework of congregational authority.


Located in the epicenter of Mississippi, the church has a long history of great preaching that is built around the pulpit from the 1940’s. Rooted in expository biblical teaching, FBCJ continues this longstanding legacy through current Senior Pastor, Dr. Matt Brooks. The church has sustained an active membership of 10,000 and draws an average attendance of approximately 3,500 on Sunday mornings. Offering excellent ministry programming for all ages, the church is highly relevant and relatable to the multi-generational congregation it attracts each week.


The role of Preschool Minister will be responsible for leading and managing FBCJ ministries to both preschool and school age children (birth-age 5). They will develop, implement, and promote a comprehensive ministry program for the children and parents of First Baptist Jackson, as well as the surrounding communities, in order to achieve the mission of the church.


The ideal candidate will offer a vision for shaping the Preschool Ministry of the church that is based on personal knowledge of child development, spiritual development, and experience partnering with parents to equip them to lead their families. 


Success in this role will be defined by:


  1. Ministry team fulfilling the mission and vision of FBCJ as a result of faithful and intentional leadership offered through this position.
  2. 100 total volunteers serving in the ministry.
  3. A sustained attendance of 200 children each week.
  4. Successful and proven networks and connections made with FBCJ families.
  5. Ministry area successfully meeting, achieving, and exceeding all established goals and expectations. 


A bachelor’s degree in a related field is required for this position. The successful candidate will be a relatable leader with a passion for leading children and families in their spiritual growth. This individual will be approachable, gifted in administration, and possess good communication skills. These attributes, coupled with collaboration with next generation ministries of FBCJ, will enable them to become a catalyst for progress.


Jackson is both the capital, and largest city in the state of Mississippi. Situated on the Pearl River, the city is located roughly halfway between the cities of Dallas, TX and Atlanta, GA. The City of Jackson has a population of approximately 173,000 with approximately 40,000 college students in its metropolitan region. The Jackson area also has a large medical community, which is one of the primary drivers of the economy.
