First Baptist Church Jackson is not a building, but a committed fellowship of believers. The church has established itself as a flagship of the SBC network, long since its inception in 1838. FBCJ is Christ centered, pastor led, deacon served, and committee approved within a framework of congregational authority.

Located in the epicenter of Mississippi, the church has a long history of great preaching that is built around the pulpit from the 1940’s. Rooted in expository biblical teaching, FBCJ continues this longstanding legacy through current Senior Pastor, Dr. Matt Brooks. The church has sustained an active membership of 10,000 and draws an average attendance of approximately 3,500 on Sunday mornings. Offering excellent ministry programming for all ages, the church is highly relevant and relatable to the multi-generational congregation it attracts each week.

The role of Next Generation Pastor will have oversight of all ministry areas involving families, students, and children. This individual will be an effective builder of ministries, a developer of leaders, and an influencer with exceedingly gifted communication abilities. It is the desire of the FBCJ to see the leaders of the next generation grow and serve, not only within the church, but also across the greater body of First Baptist Jackson and its surrounding region. The Next Generation Pastor will be instrumental in spearheading this endeavor.

Success in this role will be defined by:

  1. Ministry teams fulfilling the mission and vision of FBCJ in their respective ministry areas as a result of faithful and intentional leadership offered through this position.
  2. At least 100 volunteers serving in Family Ministry and Student Ministry.
  3. Ministry areas successfully meeting, achieving, and exceeding all established goals and expectations.

A master’s degree with a seminary background is preferred for this position. The prospective candidate will have a proven track record of being an effective ministry leader. Ideally, they will be an Executive Pastor or a Family Pastor from a mid-size church, or a Student Pastor of a church with 5000+ members. They will be comfortable communicating to both adults and students.
