First Baptist Church Jackson is not a building, but a committed fellowship of believers. The church has established itself as a flagship of the SBC network, long since its inception in 1838. FBCJ is Christ centered, pastor led, deacon served, and committee approved within a framework of congregational authority.


Located in the epicenter of Mississippi, the church has a long history of great preaching that is built around the pulpit from the 1940’s. Rooted in expository biblical teaching, FBCJ continues this longstanding legacy through current Senior Pastor, Dr. Matt Brooks. The church has sustained an active membership of 10,000 and draws an average attendance of approximately 3,500 on Sunday mornings. Offering excellent ministry programming for all ages, the church is highly relevant and relatable to the multi-generational congregation it attracts each week.


The Executive Pastor of Ministries will lead, direct, and facilitate several ministries at First Baptist Church of Jackson to create a cohesive collaboration between them, while helping each thrive and reach their full potential. This position will ensure each ministry has a clear strategy within the context of the overarching mission of the church, as well as measurable goals and achievable outcomes.


The successful candidate will be a relational-visionary with the ability to execute in a leader-coach role. They will be highly strategic and innovative with exceedingly strong team building skills, and possess a particular aptitude for developing individuals in a way that drives the ministry staff of FBCJ to achieve results with excellence.


Success in this role will be defined by:


  1. Ministry teams fulfilling the mission and vision of FBCJ in their respective ministry areas as a result of faithful and intentional leadership offered through this position.
  2. Sixty percent of the total congregation serving in ministry teams.
  3. Palpable synergy evidenced among ministry staff.
  4. Ministry areas successfully meeting, achieving, and exceeding all established goals and expectations. 


A master’s degree or a seminary background that is equivalent to a master’s degree is required for this position. The ideal candidate will be an Executive Pastor at church of 800 or more or having a significant senior leadership role at a larger church, with a history of experience leading multiple areas and/or staff, alongside a proven track record of growth. They will be an innovative self-starter and a creative problem-solver, with the ability to achieve in a multifaceted capacity. 


Jackson is both the capital, and largest city in the state of Mississippi. Situated on the Pearl River, the city is located roughly halfway between the cities of Dallas, TX and Atlanta, GA. The City of Jackson has a population of approximately 173,000 with approximately 40,000 college students in its metropolitan region. The Jackson area also has a large medical community, which is one of the primary drivers of the economy.
