Sunnyvale Presbyterian Church in the heart of Silicon Valley is looking for a Youth Director to be a part of a dynamic ministry where encouraging students to be disciples of Jesus Christ is at the heart of what we do. The Director of Ministry to Youth and Their Families is the lead staff person who oversees the full-time Associate Director of Ministry to Youth and Their Families, a part-time administrative assistant, and part-time summer interns. Placement on the salary schedule is based on education and experience with a minimum salary of $52K.
The Director of Ministry to Youth and Their Families is first and foremost responsible for his/her spiritual growth as an integrated member of the church program staff.
The purpose of this ministry is to create a culture for deepening discipleship among youth and their families. The director develops, coordinates, integrates and oversees all aspects of this highly relational ministry. This involves developing student leaders and adult advisors, to outreach to unchurched kids and families, give pastoral support for families and youth in crisis, as well as integration, visibility, and awareness of the youth program among the larger church. Sunnyvale Presbyterian Church junior high and high school programs have about 60 weekly attendees, and is supported by 30 adult volunteers in addition to an Assistant Director of Youth and Youth Administration Assistant.

This position is equal parts Relational Ministry, Event Planning, and Program Oversight.
III. WORKING RELATIONSHIPS
A. Reports to the Head of Staff.
B. Receives guidance and works collaboratively with the Session, the Youth and Their Families Ministry Team, and the Program Staff. Of particular note is the close, collaborative relationship with the Director of Children’s Ministry.
C. Works in partnership and provides leadership to the Ministry to Youth and their Families Ministry Staff: Associate Director, and Administrative Assistant, and summer interns.
D. Recruits, develops and leads the roughly 30 volunteer advisor and parent partners in the ministry.

IV. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
A. Provides the primary leadership for regular programs, including:
* Wednesday night Middle School and High School student fellowship meetings (Flash and Clue),
* Monday night small groups
* Student Church School (currently Junior High students, Flash AM)
B. Provides the primary leadership for periodic programs
* Annual Confirmation Class offered to students seeking to become members of the church.
* Various trips and retreats seeking to provide spiritual growth and healthy fellowship for students.
C. Provides the primary leadership for Service Opportunities
* Caravan : A week long summer service trip for High School students
* Activities and service opportunities within the Sunnyvale community
* Explore and develop other ways in which students and their families can be involved in global service and learning
D. Explore and develop other ministries through which students and their families can grow in their commitment to Jesus Christ, the church, and one another.

V. RELATIONAL MINISTRY
Build relationships of trust and love with students with the hope of sharing Jesus Christ where He is not known and deepening commitments where He is, as well as developing webs of relationship around the students.
A. Develop relational ministry outside of the context of formally scheduled programs.
B. Encourage, equip and train other adults to develop healthy relationships with students.
C. Plan and coordinate various outside activities for students to develop healthy relationships with their peers and adult advisors.
D. Be a resource for parents and guardians who are in need of support and guidance as they parent their student.
E. Work to integrate students into the life of the church by exposing, introducing and including them in the breadth of the church’s ministry.

VI. OTHER LEADERSHIP RESPONSIBILITIES
A. Serves on the Program Staff
B. Co-leads Safe Church Ministry Team with Director of Children’s Ministry
C. Provides Worship Leadership. This may include periodic opportunities for preaching.
D. Conduct annual performance reviews of Associate Director of Youth and the Youth Administration Assistant
The Head of Staff will conduct an annual review for the Director of Ministry to Youth and Their Families.
