This position reports directly to and works in partnership with the Lead Pastor, and oversees multiple ministry areas, with primary responsibility for oversight and strategic development of the K-12 programs for City Church. This position will provide critical leadership and discipleship to all families whose children participate in any and all City Church children ministry programs. This is a full-time position offering a competitive salary package.
1. Pastoral Oversight and Discipleship
Lead an established family discipleship ministry to new heights, reflected by growing faith, increased biblical knowledge, and deepening spiritual maturity in all students. Primary responsibility will be investing in families with students in 6th - 12th grade.
Understand and provide guidance for the establishment of a comprehensive program K-12th grade by working with Nursery Coordinator / Catechism Leaders and Teachers and volunteers who are helping with Jr. High and Senior High School ministries.
Develop a volunteer base of capable, equipped leaders among parents and students, who are a deeply committed, enthusiastic group that eagerly pours applicable spiritual truth into students, so that those students are able to transform their centers of influence for Christ.
Enhance and advance spiritual growth opportunities for students of all ages at City Church and the surrounding community, with specific responsibility to teach and lead the middle school and high school ministries while overseeing ministry to all families with students in these age groups.
Equip students and their parents to be disciples and to be disciple-makers, and build meaningful relationships with families.
2. Worship Leading and Teaching
Preach/teach and administer sacraments at worship services on Sundays as needed
Pastorally present at worship services when not leading worship (available in lobby before and after service / coffee with leadership) and actively engaging with congregants on Sunday.
3. General Pastoral and Team Leadership
Participate regularly in leadership strategy meetings
In conjunction with the Lead Pastor and Worship Leader, develop and build out infrastructure for both the short and long term church calendar.
4. Christian Education and Formation
Create, pilot and further develop a core missional K-12 education curriculum that reflects the overall vision of City Church.
Oversee Nursery Coordinator / Catechism Leaders and Teachers and volunteers who are helping with Jr. High and Senior High School ministries.
Teach Adult Bible Summer classes / Church Membership classes as needed
Create, pilot and further develop a city-based strategy for pastoral care and community formation to the K-12 demographic that advances an outward face for City Church to Corpus Christi.
6. Other Activities
Engage in regular family time with both your wife and children
Engage in regular, healthy rhythms of solitude, prayer and study
Engage in relationships of pastoral accountability and prayer
Other duties as required
The candidate will need to demonstrate a clear understanding and embrace City Church’s theological vision, core values and a have a grace-centered love for the city of Corpus Christi. An undergraduate bachelor’s degree and a theological degree from an accredited seminary or equivalent is required.
Must be a dependable team player and self-starter with the ability to take initiative while working with accountable independence. Strong problem solving, counseling, and pastoral skills are required as well as an ability to cast and execute vision for staff and congregation in a season of significant transition.
In addition, experience in and ability to manage, develop and work with a diverse team of staff and volunteers is required. Minimum five to seven years of full-time ministry in a larger context is preferable.
Excellent organizational, pastoral, communication and interpersonal skills. Ability to work collaboratively within a professional collegiate model. Commitment to understanding and spending time knowing the city of Corpus Christi to understand its distinctiveness as a context for ministry.
