Quest Community Church is seeking a Lead Pastor to lead a congregation of Christ followers to greater effectiveness and impact in reaching the world for Christ and for His glory. Alongside the Elders, Governing Board, staff, and volunteer leaders, he will lead the church in embodying the mission of transforming unconvinced people into wholehearted followers of Jesus. By investing in and challenging people to engage with God in worship, connect meaningfully with community, and live consistently on mission, he will influence radical life-long transformation in the lives of individuals and empower the church to carry out its purpose and service to God.

 

 

The following pastoral attributes and job description represent the job and ministry of the Lead Pastor and point to specific criteria needed for this role. This position is ultimately involved in all major decisions and oversees all of the staff, ministries, and business of the church through specific lead staff and governing teams.

 

Specific Pastoral Attributes:


Dynamic Biblical Communicator:

  • Preaching the Word of God in a clear compelling way to a diverse congregation is of utmost importance. As the lead communicator and preacher, the Lead Pastor will be the primary voice to challenge, inspire and teach people who are unconvinced of Jesus and those who desire to follow Him. As a gifted teacher who continually studies the Bible, the Lead Pastor will help develop worship experiences and weekend messages through creative and dynamic means to authentically meet people right where they are and help them worship and become more like Christ. The Lead Pastor will oversee the Teaching Team (a team of pastors that share the teaching opportunities) to develop sermon series that draw people to Christ, help them fall in love with God’s word, and grow them into wholehearted followers of Jesus.

Servant-hearted Visionary Leader:
  • The Bible is clear that God has chosen to work through leaders to accomplish His plans and purposes in the world. Jesus modeled God-honoring leadership through His impassioned vision of the future while serving His followers with a heart of love. The Lead Pastor of Quest is charged with the responsibility of being the lead visionary and primary example of servant-hearted leadership. In both words and action, he empowers people to reach the world for Christ and guides the leadership culture of Quest to do the same.

Grace Driven Evangelist:
  • The gospel of God’s love and grace, revealed in Jesus, must be shared. The Lead Pastor teaches with evangelistic conviction and models a lifestyle of relationship-building with unconvinced people. Relational evangelism is at the core of Quest’s DNA; reaching people far from God to help them follow Jesus is why we exist. As the chief evangelist of this message of hope, he will consistently point people to Christ and empower staff, leaders and Questers to do the same.

Passionate Love for the Church:
  • Jesus created the community of faith that is the local church to be the hope of the world. The Lead Pastor is passionate about seeing the Kingdom of God advance and will help Quest partner in God’s movement locally and globally. This passionate love and shepherd’s heart will develop growth strategies and leaders that will advance not only Quest Community Church but other churches around the world as well.

Persistent Prayerful Faith:
  • The Lead Pastor is the primary spiritual leader in the church and understands that alongside the Elders, Board, staff, and committed leaders, he will pursue a life of connection with and dependence on the Holy Spirit to determine the direction and ultimate effectiveness of the church. Prayer is at the heart of every great move of God and He upholds this spiritual discipline to lead the congregation in faith to accomplish all that God intends through its mission.

 
Job Description:
 
Specific Job Functions:
  • As Elder Chairman: Leads the Elder Team as the primary spiritual shepherd of the church.
  • As Governing Board Chairman: Leads the church in mission, vision, strategic goals and execution.
  • Oversees Lead Team & Executive Support Directors to lead all departments of the church.
  • Leads staff that oversees recruitment, hiring, development and dismissal of all staff members, as well as the overall HR practices of the church.
  • Leads as the primary weekend teacher and ultimately oversees weekend service effectiveness.
  • Leads the Teaching Team and development of sermon series.
  • Oversees the Operations Director and all financial management of the church.
  • Personally embodies the vision of the church and creates fellow owners of the vision through servant leadership.
  • Oversees leadership development efforts and programs.
  • Invests regularly in the Owners, Team Leaders and LifeGroup Leaders of the church.
  • Represents QCC to the Christian & Missionary Alliance, and ensures compliance with applicable directives.
Education or Experience:
  • Bachelor’s degree in related field; Masters of Divinity preferred. Have been a Lead Pastor for a minimum of 5 years in a local church.
Required Knowledge:
  • Biblical studies; Christian & Missionary Alliance polity
Skills Needed:
  • Exceptional Communication (both oral & written), Team-building, Relational Intelligence, Basic understanding of Business Administration

Spiritual Gifts:
  • Shepherding, Leadership, Evangelism, Teaching and Faith

Essential Job Functions:
  • Provides thorough support and reporting related to job functions.
  • Adheres to all policies as outlined in the Quest Staff Handbook.
  • Maintains and updates all policies & procedures pertinant to the position.
  • Stewards any applicable budget and adheres to spending and expense policies.
  • Leads, evaluates and develops direct reports, volunteers, and teams under the leadership of this position.
  • Develop evangelism and discipleship opportunities inside and outside the church.
