Job Description:

CFTN is seeking a full-time Senior Pastor who has been called to this position by God himself.  The candidate of choice will first and foremost have a strong commitment to Jesus Christ, a passion for God’s Word, strong preaching skills, proven leadership and administration abilities, and an obvious alignment with our DNA as described above.  The Senior Pastor shall meet the following key detailed expectations.



The Senior Pastor shall be an individual who has the character and spiritual giftedness identified as qualifications in 1 Timothy 3:1-7 and Titus 1:6-9.   The Senior Pastor shall agree and adhere to the basic doctrines of faith as defined in the CFTN Doctrinal Statement (i.e. commitment to the Word and the Apostles Creed).  The Senior Pastor shall be a graduate of an accredited seminary with a Masters level degree (i.e. Master of Divinity, Master of Arts in Theology) and pastoral church experience of at least 5 years.  The Senior Pastor shall be ordained or successfully complete an ordination process within two years.  Ministry experience in a multi-cultural church is preferred, and a willingness to live in a large urban city like greater Los Angeles is essential.


  1. Proclaim God’s Word, centered in the precious person and gracious work of Jesus Christ, as the main focus and motivation of all the church does
  2. Work closely with the Worship Pastor who has overall responsibility to design and execute the weekly worship services that complement and enhance the message
  3. Maintain doctrinal and hermeneutical soundness in all sermons
  4. Deliver sermons in a creative and motivating manner
  5. Spend adequate study and preparation time each week
  6. Following the lead of the Holy Spirit, plan a preaching schedule at least one quarter in advance that meets the congregation’s needs
  7. Deliver and lead church ordinances (e.g. communion, baptism, etc.)

Staff Leadership/Administration

  1. Facilitate, along with the staff and lay ministry leadership, a path of Spiritual Growth for every church member that starts with church attendance (loving God), following a commitment to Life Groups and volunteer team (loving others), and moving to serve in local and/or global ways (loving community)
  2. Provide, along with other pastoral staff, mentorship and top-level direction for the key ministry leaders at CFTN (Worship, Children, Students, Life Groups, Prayer/Care, Outreach, Ushers/Greeters, Connections, and Communications)
  3. Prepare and manage the CFTN budgets that are approved annually and reviewed periodically by the Whitestone Ministries Board

Church Growth

  1. Encourage the congregation to actively work alongside the Holy Spirit to bring others to salvation and into church
  2. Provide both the leadership and visible energizing force toward church growth, including an emphasis on missions, outreach and reaching the lost
  3. Mobilize church members, utilizing Life groups as vehicles, for ministry including their involvement in spiritual gifts identification, equipping, training, organizing and discipling
