The Pastor of Children is critical to Trailhead in order for us to connect with growing, young families. It is a position that requires the ability to form meaningful relationships with children of all ages and their parents.
The Pastor of Children will work to develop and continually grow a flourishing children’s environment, in order to see children come to know Christ and follow Him as disciples. This person will be responsible for having a system in place to recruit, screen, equip and show appreciation for volunteers. Further, they will need to clearly communicate the ministry’s values and expectations to volunteers and work to keep the children’s group connected to the rest of the church body in a healthy way. Further, this position is one in which the core value of “Patient Persistence” will be critical (on multiple levels).
The Pastor of Children will be someone who implements sustainable methods for growing in the knowledge and likeness of Jesus and he/she will always be planning ahead for those who are not a part of the group, yet.
Finally, it should be noted that this role is an equipping role. As the staff at Trailhead is called to “equip the saints for the work of ministry”, this person will be responsible for:
- Equipping a volunteer assistant who can take over the Pastor of Children’s responsibilities at any time necessary
- Equip the parents for Christian lifestyles and ministry within their homes (as much as possible)
- Equip the children to understand the core principles of following Jesus and make sure they have ready opportunities to accept Jesus as their Lord
- Equip multiple volunteers to feel comfortable in – and thrive in – the various areas of children’s ministry
GOALS AND EXPECTATIONS
The thing that constitutes a “win” at this position is the ability to move children and their families toward relationships with Jesus and connect them to the larger mission and vision of Trailhead. That is the ultimate goal of this leadership role. Beyond that, it is important for this person to work toward a healthy relationship with the Lead Pastor in order to help him stay in touch with the developments within the children’s environments.
The person in this position is expected to do everything within their ability to serve the church. They are expected to maintain healthy relationships both inside and outside of the church as they live missionally among the people of Wellington. They are expected to seek first the kingdom of God and pursue a deepening relationship with Jesus at all times.
Finally, as a member of the Staff team at Trailhead, you are expected to actively pursue opportunities to replace yourself. One of the key aspects of the staff is that we are to equip the saints for ministry. Therefore, each Staff member is expected to have at least one unpaid assistant that they are training to step into their role as necessary.
