Our 9:45 AM Modern Worship Service invites 125-175 individuals a Sunday into a dynamic, growing community that gathers around Christ in Word and Worship to pray, learn, care, share and serve together. Between 3 services (8:30, 9:45, and 11:00), Faith United Methodist invites between 450-500 individuals each Sunday morning into growth through Christ.  


Ministry Description:

Work with the Worship Arts Coordinator in the coordination, planning and implementation of modern worship music.  Direct Modern Worship Ensemble  musicians and singers while leading modern worship to provide excellent music bringing depth of meaning, passion and vitality to the worship services.  Encourage and cultivate the spiritual growth of singers and musicians.  As “Minister of Vocal and Instrumental ModernMusic”, have a pastoral relationship with all those involved in modern music ministry and their families.

  • Passion and vision for modern music and worship ministry that contributes to worship vitality

  • Proficient with MS Office and other software related to modern worship planning and implementation

  • Ability to recruit, organize, motivate, lead, train and relate with people to use their musical gifts for worship

  • Understanding of various components that contribute to vital modern worship

  • Understanding of the relationship between theology, music, lyrics and worship

  • Desire to see the modern worship at Faith United Methodist expand to affect greater transformation of disciples for Christ throughout the Stark county community


Ministry Responsibilities:

  • Work with Worship Arts Coordinator to seek, invite, empower and schedule soloists and groups for modern worship with a preference for utilizing FUMC talent  with at least one song led by a members-in-ministry (volunteers) each week during the 9:45 AM modern worship service

  • Work with Worship Arts Coordinator to select music for the Modern Worship ensemble and other groups/individuals providing music for modern worship

  • Lead Modern Worship Ensemble in rehearsals and provide for the spiritual and musical development of its members

  • Instill in Modern Worship Ensemble an understanding of their shared musical gifts as ministry in service to God

  • Assist in the coordination of 9:45 modern worship elements including sound design, non-musical worship participants (communion, greeters, ushers, sound, worship hospitality) and other areas as needed

  • Provide music titles and information for worship planning to the Worship Arts Coordinator according to schedule

  • Direct Modern Worship Ensemble and lead modern worship in modern worship services

  • Actively seek out ways to connect the community with FUMC through modern worship music ministries

  • Be familiar with and abide by Church Policies, The Employee Handbook,  Safe Sanctuaries Policy and the Staff Expectations and Covenant

  • Champion the church’s purpose, vision, mission and journey

  • Maintain database of modern worship music/songs used in worship along with various legal licensing necessary for modern worship (CCLI)

  • Utilize “The Planning Center Online” and/or other electronic tools for worship coordination

  • Perform all other duties as assigned by the Worship Arts Coordinator and pastors

  • Oversee the maintenance and servicing of the Church’s modern worship service instruments and equipment

  • Coordinate and coach musicians/vocalists to achieve excellence in their contribution to worship vitality

  • Coordinate with other choir directors and Worship Arts Coordinator

  • Other duties as needed


Education and Training:

  • Ideal Candidate will possess Bachelor’s degree in music performance and/or music education or equivalent experience, though those with music background and skills without degrees will be considered

  • Ideal Candidate will possess previous successful experience in modern worship bands and modern worship leadership in church ministry

  • Continuing education (workshops, reading, associations, guilds, etc.)


Work Schedule:

  • The position is responsible for results rather than hours worked.

  • Estimated 11 plus hours per week, part time salaried position

  • Weekly Modern Worship Ensemble team practice

  • Direct the Modern Worship Team in worship at 48 Sundays a year

  • Special services during Lent, Advent and Christmas and other services as scheduled by the Worship Arts Coordinator

  • Rehearsal and service preparation time

  • Time to research appropriate music

  • Time for pastoral care, Modern Worship Team promotion and relationship building



Salary and Benefits:

  • $ 7,956 per year in 2015 calendar year; opportunity for salary review in 2017

  • Pension, benefits and healthcare not included as stated in the Employee Handbook for part time staff
