Job Description:


The Director position is a full-time, salaried, (non-exempt) job at Church of the Cross.  The position works directly with the Lead Pastor and reports to the Staff Parish Relations Committee.


The Director is a spiritual and organizational leader who oversees the worship and youth ministries of Church of the Cross.  Oversight of the worship and youth ministries includes but is not limited to leading our Sunday morning worship; implementation of Church of the Cross UMC’s vision, mission, and strategy in the worship and youth areas; crafting the themes for each service in conjunction with the lead pastor; training and nurturing team members while working with various groups throughout the church to use music and the arts for worship; ensuring each worship service is led in such a way that the congregation has an opportunity for an authentic encounter with God’s presence; and leading our youth on a path of discipleship that leads them into a growing relationship with Jesus Christ. 



A clear testimony of faith in Jesus Christ and a vital, growing personal relationship with Him


Demonstrated Christian leadership and/or experience as a youth or worship leader in a church environment.  


Experience in leading worship, vocalists and other musicians.


Demonstrated abilities to recruit and work with a variety of personalities and age groups. 


Proficiency in playing piano or guitar with the ability to lead while singing 


Knowledge of traditional and contemporary Christian music 


A bachelor’s degree in an area of Christian service is preferred with an emphasis in music or youth ministry. 




Provide leadership in the development and implementation of meaningful worship experiences at Church of the Cross through the selection of worship themes in conjunction with the Lead Pastor. 


Key responsibilities in this area include:

Provide appropriate musical leadership during the contemporary service time.  

Notify the church secretary of the order of worship by the Wednesday preceding the service.

Provide any graphics needed in a Power Point format to the Media team.  

Work with other music staff to provide meaningful worship experiences.

Ensure adequate maintenance of instruments in conjunction with the Board of Trustees

Direct the Church of the Cross Youth Program.  Youth are defined as 3rd-12th grade children.  If the need arises, also develop a post-high school young adult program. 


Key responsibilities for this area include:

Organize and develop programs for weekly meetings

Develop Bible and spiritual study opportunities

Maintain a team of adult volunteers in accordance with our Safe Sanctuary policy.

Provide emphasis on discipleship, relationship, and leadership development for the youth

Develop, organize, and facilitate youth retreats and mission outreach efforts. 

Communicate with parents and students on weekly meetings and special events.

Submit an annual budget for areas of responsibilities.

Adhere to the budget approved by the Finance Committee. 

Maintain an active membership on the Worship Committee.  


All duties must be carried out with a congenial attitude of cooperation reflected in his/her work with the Lead Pastor and other church staff and members of the congregation. 



Submit time sheets to the Church Treasurer by the Wednesday after the end of the pay period. Submit PRO requests to the SPR committee at least 2 weeks in advance of the planned PTO.


Adhere to the Financial Spending Policy of the Church of the Cross.


Adhere to the Safe Sanctuary/ Child Protection Policy adopted by Church of the Cross
