Job Description:

Crestwood Presbyterian Church is seeking a person of strong Christian faith and experience in working with children to lead our children’s ministry to the next level.  Applicants should have a clear understanding of Biblical truth and Reformed theology and should be passionate about working with children and their families so that our children become lifelong disciples of Christ.  Priorities include working effectively with families and other Crestwood ministries to integrate our children’s ministry into the life of the church and to create and implement children’s programs that will draw families into a close relationship with Christ.

Primary Purpose of Position:


Provides spiritual leadership, implementation and administration of church educational ministries for children through elementary school age at both Crestwood locations.  


The Children’s Ministry Director shall primarily focus on the educational needs of the congregation from birth through 5th grade and shall plan, develop, lead, nurture and grow the ministry for children so they become disciples of Jesus Christ.

  • Understanding of Scripture – Knows and values the Bible as God’s revealed truth and the core of all the teaching of the church

  • Early Childhood Education Skills - A Bachelor’s degree in Primary Education or Christian Education preferred; Keeps current in the latest methods and materials in Children’s Christian Education; Has a deep love for and experience working with children

  • Communications skills - Strong personal skills, exceptional listening skills, strong oral and written communication skills

  • Leadership Skills - A self motivated person who exhibits and values being a team player with other staff members; Experience in a church environment working with children preferred


  • Organizational/Business Skills - Exceptional organizational and administrative skills; Ability to work with standard business applications such as MS Office, being generally technologically savvy


Duties & Responsibilities:


  • Evaluate, select, and implement age appropriate curriculum for Children’s Christian Education programs

  • Works with Children’s Christian Education Committee in evaluating the effectiveness of current Children’s CE programs while seeking to develop new and expand current programs

  • Works closely and cooperatively with and communicates regularly with the Ruling Elder overseeing the Children’s Ministry

  • Works closely and cooperatively with the Ruling Elder for Children’s Ministry in planning and monitoring the financial budget for this area of the church’s work

  • Create ministries to support families with children

  • Identify and engage visiting families to help connect them to our Children’s Ministry programs

  • Recruit, train, and support volunteer teachers for Wednesday night program, Sunday school and Children in Worship at both campuses

  • Serve as a staff resource to the MOPS Ministry

  • Provide primary direction and leadership to VBS; including, but not limited to, establishing a director of VBS and a team of volunteers, selecting  a curriculum, community outreach, as well as overseeing the technology requirements for the program

  • Plan and implement special events involving children, including, but not limited to, service projects and 3rd grade Bible presentation


Administrative Responsibilities:


  • Oversee staffing, recruitment of volunteers and schedule nursery workers for Sunday, Wednesday night program and special events

  • Responsible for hiring, payroll and scheduling of nursery staff to include, but not limited to, MOPs, Wednesday night and special events

  • Prepare, organize and maintain classrooms, attendance, supplies, equipment and disseminate curriculum appropriately at both campuses

  • Compose and submit timely announcements for The City, Bulletin and Chronicle related to Christian Education to include disseminating schedules to all volunteers

  • Responsible for the Children’s Christian Education Ministry in the planning and monitoring of budget items related to children’s ministry
