The vision of Oak Pointe Church is simple. Our desire is to be a place where anyone can find God, no matter where they are on their spiritual journey.

In 1996, after serving as a missionary and then college professor for several years, Bob and Shirley Shirock found themselves serving faithfully as volunteers at Highland Park Baptist Church, a solid local church. Teaching a “Saturday Live” service each weekend, a passion to launch a new church began to grow in Bob and several of the church leaders. In February 1997, a group of 57 adults and their kids began meeting as Oak Pointe Church.

Today, Oak Pointe houses a thriving congregation of more than 3,800 who represent a global body of Christ through racial, gender, economic, and cultural diversity. It continues to grow and expand under the formative leadership of Senior Pastor Bob Shirock. He offers his expertise in teaching, development, and design to the ministry of Oak Pointe so it may fulfill its purpose in establishing itself as a flagship in the city of Novi and the surrounding regions of Michigan.

The Executive Pastor of Ministries at Oak Pointe Church will be a leader of leaders. He will have a proven track record of leading at a high level in a large, creative church. His heart will be toward empowering and pastoring the staff to accomplish the vision of the church. His wife will embrace his ministry and also follow the passion of her heart in ministry. Ideally, the two of them will together share a desire to pour into the staff and their spouses.

In a broad sense, responsibilities will consist of vision alignment, strategic planning, implementation/monitoring, shepherding, staff advancement and hiring, along with church planting and executive development. The ideal candidate for this position will possess the following core attributes for the purpose of executing all positional responsibilities with excellence:

  • A strong biblical knowledge is required.
  • A Master of Divinity or higher is preferred.

  • Proven record of leading teams, empowering leaders, and growing ministry.
  • Experience in church plants, restarts, and/or campuses.
  • A personal grasp of (and belief in) the Emotionally Healthy Spirituality

Personal Characteristics

  • In coordination with the Senior Pastor, the Elders, and the Management Team, have a clear grasp of the vision and values of Oak Pointe.
  • A love for lost people and passion for conversion growth.
  • Embrace Oak Pointe’s seeker-friendly weekend service style.
  • Ability to engage relationally with other high level leaders in the region.
  • If applicable, a spouse that is comfortable being involved, while maintaining a vested interest in the ministry of Oak Pointe Church.
  • Love for the Word of God.
  • Personal grasp of (and belief in) the principles of Emotionally Healthy Spirituality (see book by Pete Scazerro).
