About Riverside Church: Riverside Church (www.Riverside.Church) is a 6-year-old church (200+ people) rooted on the west side of South Bend, Indiana in a racially, economically, and educationally diverse community.  Riverside Church was planted with the vision to be an outward-focused church that reaches the city through both evangelism and restoration.  As an example of this vision, Riverside Church meets in an abandoned bowling alley, which Riverside purchased and converted into “The Beacon,” a community center.  The Beacon ( is the primary meeting space for multiple community organizations and nonprofits that share our vision to see the west side of South Bend transformed.  The mission of Riverside is to “Follow Jesus. Love people. Impact the world.“  We highly value discipleship, which is exemplified through the foundation of our church being rooted in home groups (mid-week gatherings in homes). On Sunday mornings, we gather to worship through singing, communion, primarily expositional preaching, and our large children’s ministry.


Essential Qualifications:

  • Relationally-driven and outgoing
  • Prior urban ministry experience (paid or volunteer), including multicultural ministry
  • Experience in leadership development and disciple making within a congregation or ministry
  • Theological and ministry training
  • Ability to work in a team
  • Self-motivated
  • Alignment with Riverside’s Mission & Values * 
  • Full acceptance without reservation of Riverside’s Statement of Faith *

Job Details: Full-Time, salary commensurate with qualifications based on the South Bend Community School Corporation teacher pay scale (this is how we determine church staff pay)



Immediate priorities (years 1-2)


Develop and own the connections and assimilation process for Riverside

  • Help new and existing people grow in discipleship, including serving in the church and joining home groups
  • Recruit for and oversee the broad volunteer effort at the church
  • Recruit and equip ministry leaders
  • Broaden church communication

Provide pastoral care

  • Provide a welcoming pastoral presence on Sunday mornings
  • Grow relationships with new home group leaders and disciple a few
  • Offer pastoral counseling and give referrals for professional counseling

Further develop our junior high ministry[1]

  • Build and equip a 7-8th grade ministry team
  • Personally support the ministry until the team can lead on their own 

Growth priorities (beyond year 1)

Assist in teaching, training, and developing

  • Preach 4-12x/year (depending on gifts/experience)
  • Lead monthly home group leader training 2-3x/year
  • Prepare home group discussion guides based on sermon passages as needed
  • Develop and teach strategic mid-week classes to be offered seasonally, ~1x/year

Help Riverside grow deeper with existing ministry partners and in outreach
