The mission of Cokesbury Church is to love people into a relationship with Jesus to change the world.

Cokesbury Church is a multi-site United Methodist Congregation. Founded just over 50 years ago, Cokesbury began as a traditional church until 15 years ago when it purchased an additional property in order to expand. Cokesbury remains at the same locations, hosting both contemporary and traditional worship services each week. In recent years, the mission of “Loving people into a relationship with Jesus to change the world” has not only become a statement to memorize but has become a way of life. Because of the buy-in from the people of Cokesbury to this vision, recovery and outreach ministries have become central to the Cokesbury’s identity in the community and surrounding areas.

Evidenced by multiple stories of life change, Cokesbury Church is one of the fastest growing United Methodist Churches in the United States with an average weekly worship attendance over 4,000 people. This includes five physical campuses in Knoxville, Chattanooga, and Johnson City, with an additional online campus that offers live-streamed and on-demand services.

The pillars of Student Ministry at Cokesbury Church are high-power worship, small groups, and helping students make a difference through service. The next Director of Student Ministries will champion, meet, and exceed all goals set upon this foundation. This individual will be a great communicator and a natural recruiter with a dynamic personality, so they may utilize such attributes to help students meet and grow in Jesus.

The ideal candidate will have an unrelenting passion for students and ministry to this emerging generation. They will be equipped to lead in both evangelistic and discipleship realms in terms of building relationships with both churched and unchurched students. They will bear marks of a ‘minister of the Gospel,’ with a track record of building and growing ministries within the context of the Vision and Mission of a church.

The successful candidate will have a bachelor’s degree from an accredited university which will bring expertise and credibility to the position. The ideal candidate for this role will possess a genuine love and passion for students and have at least 5+ years of experience at growing a student ministry in a church of at least 2,000 +. They will have experience as a dynamic communicator, recruiting and managing teams, and building leaders. In addition, they will embrace working in a multi-site setting with a commitment to reaching the unreached while working within the Knoxville community through relational engagement.

The city, named in honor of the first Secretary of War, Henry Knox, is the second oldest city in the state, following Nashville. Knoxville is a vibrant community located at the foothills of the Smoky Mountains. Knoxville’s location in East Tennessee allows for easy access to Atlanta, Nashville, Chattanooga, Asheville, Charlotte, and other surrounding cities. Cokesbury’s central campus is located in West Knoxville, a mostly middle-upper class portion of Knox County. Knoxville is also home of the University of Tennessee's flagship campus, as well as several other higher education institutions. It occupies businesses and organizations that are on the cutting-edge, including carbon fiber, high-speed computing, other research and development efforts, making the region attractive to private sector employers. Knoxville boasts a rich arts community that has many festivals throughout the year, such as the Dogwood Arts Festival and Big Ears Festival. Its contributions to old-time, bluegrass and country music genres are also a recognizable feature of the area’s signature country culture. With a metro population of 858,500 according to Forbes, and a cost of living 3% below national average, Knoxville was ranked #6 Best Cities for Jobs in 2011.
