Grace UMC was founded with just a few families back in 1831. Today, with a clear mission to worship God and to care for the needs of others, Grace UMC has grown to become a thriving congregation of several hundred, located in the heart of downtown Indiana, Pennsylvania.

With dozens of ministries, many of whom focus on outreach, children and discipleship programming for growing families, Grace UMC has had an extensive local and global impact within the Kingdom of God for nearly 200 years. Their values of accepting change, following the guidance of the Holy Spirit, and stepping out in faith will continue to be pillars and guiding principles of the church, both now and forever.

The Director of Family Ministries is an enthusiastic, gifted, and spiritually mature individual who is responsible for developing and overseeing the teams and processes necessary for a thriving ministry that serves the families of children and students from birth to 12th grade.

A 4-year degree alongside a minimum of 3 years of experience within family ministries at a church of at 750-1,000 attendees is preferred for this position. A United Methodist theological training and education is additionally preferred. The ideal candidate for this position will possess the following skills/characteristics at minimum:

  • Exude a vibrant relationship with Jesus and love for the church.
  • Possess an obvious passion for students and their families.
  • Ability to teach and communicate to students in large and small environments.
  • Ability to craft and cultivate high energy, multi-sensory, and age-appropriate environments for students.
  • Ability to communicate, train, and lead parents.
  • Ability to integrate technology into curriculum design and application.
  • Ability to foster a passion in students for local and global missions.
  • Possess a proven track record as a team builder both paid and volunteer staff.

The successful candidate will have a proven track record of growing a ministry in a community setting that has interactions with people from multi-generational backgrounds and economic statuses. The candidate will have had experience working as an effective leader of ministry teams, with the responsibility of providing vision for volunteers, and the ability to develop and monitor a vibrant, creative, and attractive children and youth ministry that is equally focused on family-based discipleship.
