Job Description:

Hope Point’s student ministry consists of 7th-12th graders. Our primary means of Biblical instruction is achieved through small groups and small group leaders. Our youth service is held weekly on Sunday nights and includes activities, food, a short worship/large group devotional followed by in depth small group Bible study. Each summer we have an annual student mission week where students help spread the love of Christ to the needy and less fortunate in Spartanburg. We also participate in an annual youth camp during the summer. Throughout the year there are monthly student fellowship events and activities.



  • Maturing Christian who possesses a keen desire to share the faith and minister to students on a personal level
  • A personal spiritual life congruent with biblical mandates for leaders (1 Timothy 3:1-7)
  • Possess a passion and working knowledge of God’s word, supportive of the Church’s vision and doctrinal statement, and willing to become a member soon after starting
  • Relationally and administratively gifted with the ability to recruit volunteer support
  • Self-directed with strong communication, organization, and leadership skills
  • Energetic and engaging, yet humble teachable spirit
  • Familiar with resources available especially for junior high and senior high age levels.
  • 3+ years experience in leading a youth ministry is preferred
  • Master’s degree in Youth Ministry/Biblical studies is preferred but a bachelor’s degree in a related field will be considered


Duties and responsibilities

  • Maintain a Christ-centered student ministry at all times
  • Help plan, develop, and implement all aspects of a balanced youth ministry in the areas of small groups, worship, discipleship, mission, evangelism, and outreach.
  • Empower parents; support, engage and partner with parents to effectively contribute to the spiritual formation of our youth.
  • Build relationships with students by going where kids are, meeting them as they are, and believing in who they can be
  • Recruit, enlist and train volunteers in a way that leverages the gifts in the Youth Ministry.
  • Provide counseling and spiritual direction to youth on an individual basis.
  • Maintain contact with students and parents, keeping them informed of ongoing activities. Keep parents updated on ministry strategies and plans in a way that encourages partnership and involvement.
  • Assist in the development and oversight of the youth ministry budget; also manage student fees for events and trips in a timely fashion.
  • Maintain awareness of cultural trends among youth in order to have a Biblical response to their societal pressures.
  • Maintain a healthy work/life balance exemplifying Biblical leadership in the home.
