Job Description:

THE CHURCH

The Vision of Hermitage Hills Baptist Church is very simple. They want to see people experience LIFE change through Jesus Christ.

They believe lost people matter to God and lost people matter to Hermitage Hills Baptist Church. Every number is a person. Every number is a story. Every number is a person whose eternity has been changed because somebody invited them to “come and see”.

Hermitage Hills sits in a strategic position within the Nashville landscape. Surrounded by some of the largest public/private schools in the area, it is a prime territory for the next generation. They are focused on seeing hundreds of students experiencing LIFE change weekly through their LIFEgroups and worship experiences on multiple campuses.

Hermitage Hills Baptist Church is a place with a glorious past and an unlimited future. They are a church with a rich history spanning 62 years, with over 1,300 people meeting weekly in two locations. Commonly referred to as a “friendly and generous church”, Hermitage Hills is a regional church that reaches beyond the immediate boundaries of Hermitage, TN.  They are a collection of imperfect people who are perfectly committed to loving outsiders.

Hermitage currently has 7 full time Pastors and Ministers on staff, 4 of which have been with the church 10 years or longer. The balance between younger leaders and seasoned veterans is evident, but the church needs a high-capacity leader who can mentor, challenge, and drive their student ministry to another level. While ministry is demanding and takes long hours, the team values having fun and doing life together.

THE OPPORTUNITY

The Minister of Students at Hermitage Hills will be the spiritual catalyst responsible for all Student Ministry activities and community groups, grades 6th-12th. This person is expected to think strategically about the growth of middle and high school groups (both in numbers and depth) while maintaining relationships with students and parents. They will also be responsible for recruiting and equipping volunteers to be influential leaders throughout the Student Ministry.

Hermitage Hill’s Student Ministry is positioned to thrive across both campuses as it benefits from the stability and strength of our children’s ministry and intentional outreach to younger families. The Minister of Students will have the opportunity to shape this generation to fulfill God’s purpose and live a better story.

In the fall of 2014, Hermitage Hills broke ground on a new 8 million dollar facility that is completely devoted to the next generation of students. It will include, but not be limited to space for our preteen, middle school, high school and college ministries. This space was designed to create an atmosphere of community for our students and a hub of activity for Hermitage area youth.

The successful candidate must have a relentless passion for God and a desire to engage youth culture with the Gospel of Jesus Christ. Innovation, creativity and relational capacity will be a premium in this position and on this team. A successful candidate will have a proven track record of working in a fast-paced setting, reaching unchurched teens and developing those who are inside the ministry, building volunteer teams, and being self-motivated.

They are looking for a Student Minster who can relate to the emerging generation of students, speak their language and reinterpret their reality with the compelling nature of the Gospel. We are looking for someone who has the ability to bring the Word of God alive in the hearts of students and partner with them in building a regional student ministry known for their hunger for missional living and engaging the culture with the love of Jesus. While multisite experience is not required, it is preferred.

LOCATION/DEMOGRAPHICS

In March 2014, Time Magazine ranked Nashville as one of the top 5 cities in the United States as the South’s “Red Hot Town”. “Nashville has had the strongest employment growth of any large metropolis since the Great Recession. It was the second-fastest-growing U.S. city for most of 2013 and the only one in the top four outside of oil-booming Texas. The city’s cost of living, meanwhile, is cheaper than the U.S. average by over 13%. Office vacancies fell to 10.4% from 12.3%, among the 10 biggest declines in U.S. markets last year, according to CBRE, a commercial real estate firm. Foodies flock to nationally lauded new restaurants housed in shuttered factories, while well-to-do college graduates rent their first apartments in the Gulch, a former brownfield transformed into the first LEED-certified neighborhood in the South.
