Fair Oaks Presbyterian Church seeks an Assistant Pastor for Teaching & Family Ministries who will be responsible for programs that disciple and spiritually resource the church families. Main program areas include oversight of family and young adult community groups, fellowship events, service and outreach opportunities, family camp (including men’s and women’s retreats), and marriage/family classes and conferences.


The successful candidate for this position will be highly relational, with complementary skills in administration. They will possess a bold and pioneering spirit with a strong desire to nurture, expand, and maximize the potential of family life at Fair Oaks Presbyterian Church. This individual will be highly gifted in shepherding, mentoring, leading, and preaching. The ideal prospect will possess a foundational understanding of teaching, development, and relational management in both congregational and staffing spheres of the church. The next Assistant Pastor of Teaching & Family Ministries will complement the biblically-centric, people-oriented, community-centered environment of Fair Oaks Presbyterian Church, and seamlessly fit within a “California church culture” as they embrace the community of Fair Oaks and the greater Sacramento region. To successfully meet the expectations of this role, a Master of Divinity (or its equivalent) is required, alongside the following set of experiences/skills to scale:


  • 3-5 years of experience in leading a Family Small Group Ministry at a 1000+ member church.
  • Strong ‘up front’ communication skills, with the ability to teach and preach in an effective manner
  • Preach regularly at the modern/casual service at 9:00am, and for the other services once every six weeks, or as needed.
  • Deep understanding of Scripture, with the ability to apply, teach, and implement it to everyday life--both biblically educated and biblically devout)
  • Winsomely relate to individual’s ages 20 through 50
  • A history of leading and coordinating small group ministry
  • Mature understanding of, and skilled in relating to, the pastoral needs of young families
  • Experience managing teams, with knowledge of team dynamics ranging from recruiting and building to volunteer development
  • Ability to work independently with industriousness in use of time and resources
  • Ability to initiate and implement plan of action
  • Personally an outgoing person who is energized by people
  • A team player who is able to recruit volunteers and build teams
  • Evidence that can provide the basis for successfully achieving the purpose of the position

It is a mature community that has existed for a long time. Located in close proximity to Sacramento, Fair Oaks boasts pleasant seasonal weather near the confluence of the Sacramento and American rivers. It is merely miles away from the typical California sprawl consisting of busy freeways, enticing shopping centers, and various sports/recreation opportunities. Lake Tahoe and the Sierras are a 1 ½ hour drive east, the Pacific Ocean is a 2 hour drive west.
