The Crossing is a church for people from all walks of life and backgrounds. Since its inception in 1988, The Crossing has sought to make a positive difference in their community with the love of Jesus. 


Operating under the 26-year-long leadership of Lead Pastor Tim Celek, The Crossing Church is thriving with 1,500 in regular attendance, and has established its presence as a flagship of hope in the community of Costa Mesa. Its longstanding value that “People Matter,” continues to be characteristic of its new guest/member assimilation, influential ministries, and extensive outreach work across the region and the globe.


The Senior Associate Pastor will be part of the Executive Leadership Team at The Crossing Church. They will share weekend teaching responsibilities with the current Lead Pastor, and be his primary support and trusted partner while implementing the vision, philosophy, and values of the church. They will seamlessly “fit” with the DNA and ethos of The Crossing Church, with a significant voice and influence in the future of the church. The individual will follow the Lead Pastor’s example of working with the Board, relying on their wisdom and discernment to help him lead The Crossing well. They will love the diversity of the church, and be filled with vision, ideas, and excitement at the prospect of leading and growing the people of The Crossing Church.


The primary purpose of this role has the intended aim for The Senior Associate Pastor to become the next Lead Pastor of The Crossing Church. For this reason, the candidate would need the heart, desire, and patience to be intentional in being mentored by the current Lead Pastor, Tim Celek, with the patience to grow and learn the new role that awaits him.


In order to successfully meet, achieve, exceed the responsibilities of this role, the prospective candidate will possess an 8+ year history of ministry/pastoral leadership (preferably on an Executive Leadership Team), and a college degree from an accredited institution. While graduate level education or seminary training is not required, it is highly preferred.

The Senior Associate Pastor’s leadership will be predominantly marked by:

  • Winning people over with enthusiasm.
  • Creating a staff culture of clarity and energy.
  • Effectively developing leadership qualities among a new wave of staff members and leaders.

Additional skills/experience will include, but are not limited to:

  • An excellent communicator with an extraordinary ability to preach while exuding charisma.
  • Ability to discover, develop, and deploy individual leaders and teams.
  • A strong background in teaching, ministry development, team building, discipleship, and ministry formation strategies with proven success in implementing them.
  • A proven track record of leadership and organizational development.
  • Capability to lead within a community of high-level leaders.
  • Ability to promote innovation through collaboration in a fast-paced, multi-faceted environment.
  • Aptitude and successful supervisory experience leading a staff and a congregation of 3,000+ in weekend attendance is highly preferred.
