Job Description:


Support the Facilities Team as it ministers to the needs of the Mars Hill community.


  • Experience in custodial and maintenance tasks at institutional facilities such as schools, churches, or similar facilities
  • Hands-on knowledge of at least one (several preferred) of the following trades: electrical, plumbing, HVAC, light carpentry, small equipment repair, or others
  • Ability to walk or stand for 8-10 hours a day
  • Ability to lift furniture (desks, couches) regularly (with or without accommodation)
  • Ability to repetitively lift, carry, and place large numbers of chairs and tables (with or without accommodation)
  • Ability to shovel snow up to 2 hours a day (with or without accommodation)
  • Ability to work unscheduled overtime
  • Ability to work outside of normal schedule (with notice) to fill-in for absent team members
  • Valid driver’s license
  • Passion for pursuing the highest level of quality and the ongoing commitment to creating a welcoming atmosphere
  • Demonstrated ability to proactively prioritize, manage, and energetically tackle multiple and simultaneous demands with follow through and determination
  • Ability to thrive in a high-touch environment which includes interacting in effective ways with a variety of individuals in a variety of settings and maintaining a congenial, professional, and caring demeanor in challenging conversations and situations


  1. Maintaining cleanliness of Mars Hill building and grounds (15%)
  • Sweeping, mopping, waxing, and sealing floors
  • Vacuuming, extracting, spot cleaning, and shampooing rugs and carpets
  • Emptying and cleaning waste receptacles, including recycle containers
  • Cleaning and sanitizing all restrooms
  • Filling towel and soap dispensers as needed
  • Performing various other actions to ensure a clean and safe environment for all activities
  1. Setting up and tearing down rooms as needed by the other ministries of Mars Hill (40%)
  • Leading or assisting in moving, arranging, and setting up furniture and equipment for all events
  • Remaining cognizant of more efficient and/or less costly methods of accomplishing ministry needs via communication with the team leader
  • Being relational and helpful with all ministries, while adhering to Facility Policy by directing all requests to the appropriate mechanisms
  1. Maintaining the building and grounds (30%)
  • Performing maintenance and repairs to facility equipment and systems
  • Maintaining HVAC systems
  • Performing light mechanical, electrical, plumbing, carpentry, and painting work
  • Moving, installing, and/or assembling all furniture and equipment as needed
  • Working with, leading, and encouraging all community service workers
  • Performing light exterior work to maintain desired appearance of building and grounds
  1. Cooperating with, encouraging, and supporting the Facilities team and Mars Hill community (15%)
  • Notifying Operations Manager of all concerns in a timely manner
  • Going the extra mile when interacting with ministry staff, volunteers, and other individuals within the Mars Hill community

              Payroll Status:         Hourly, non-exempt

              Office Hours:            Second shift hours 3-4 days during the week plus some Sundays (24 - 32 hours per week)
