Life Group Pastor, Irvine Campus

Position Summary -Life Groups are a key strategy for Mariners Church to make life changing disciples to change our community, county, country and the world. We are seeking an individual who is passionate about community growth and making a large impact for the Kingdom of God. They will be skilled at doing ministry in a mega church, multi-site, ever changing growing environment. They will also be keenly aware of the culture we live in and passionate about reaching every person.  We are looking for a Life Group Pastor who is willing to take risks, try new things, while remaining focused on the never changing truth of God’s word and its ability to change us through the study of the word and experiential formatted groups. This individual will need to be a strong leader who will cast vision, along with excelling at developing and implementing a strategy to keep our Life Groups in alignment with our model of ministry.


Responsibilities -

  • Oversee Mariners Church Life Group Ministry of 350+ groups ensuring their development is aligned with the mission, vision and values of our church
  • Develop and implement strategies to support and grow groups
  • Cast vision and mobilize people toward the vision of the church
  • Work hand and hand with our Rooted Pastor to transition Groups from Rooted to Life Groups
  • Recruit, train and develop leaders and coaches
  • Create and identify curriculum to support group growth
  • Work cross functionally with all departments in the church
  • Manage a staff team to support Group Life
  • Writing weekly Sermon based Flow Questions
  • Attend weekly pastoral teaching meeting
  • Be a valuable team member on the Community Life Team
  • Pastoral care and shepherding of people - including weddings and funerals
  • Embrace the values and vision of the Mariners Church Transformational Loop and lead in alignment with it


Qualifications –

  • A personal relationship with Jesus Christ and a life lived in reflection of biblical values
  • Visionary leader and self-directed
  • Able to resolve conflict and not avoid the challenges necessary to help people grow
  • Good communication skills - oral and written
  • Experience with managing Group Life Ministries in a large church format
  • Excellent leadership development skills and experience
  • Willingness to learn and try new things
  • Demonstrated ability to recruit, develop and empower leaders as well as support their spiritual growth
  • Passion for people and community life as demonstrated in their own life
  • Proven ability to manage a budget
  • Teachable spirit
  • 5-7 years’ experience as a member of staff in a ministry leadership capacity
  • B.A. in biblical studies or related field (extensive ministry experience can be substituted in some cases)
