Pleasant Grove United Methodist Church, an evangelical church in Charlotte, NC, is seeking a full-time Director of Youth Ministries to provide leadership for small group and student/youth ministries. The ideal candidate will possess a number of qualities
and qualifications, including:
This position will provide leadership and direction for successful and effective middle school and high school ministries, in addition to small groups ministries at PGUMC, including program development and leadership, recruiting, training and oversight
of volunteer leaders to enable successful ministries in areas of responsibility; youth community outreach and missions and management of youth ministries budget are also included.
Works under the direction of the Senior Pastor, along with oversight of the church’s Staff-Parish Relations Committee.
Provides leadership for all aspects of PGUMC middle and high school youth programs and small group ministries.
Qualifications and Experience
Energetic, creative and passionate about leading others to Christ and nurturing persons in a maturing relationship with Christ with proven abilities in leading youth and small group ministries; connection with the theological position of PGUMC
and church staff; Bachelor’s degree or higher in a related field.
Vision and ability to plan, develop, coordinate, manage and implement youth/student and small group ministries; strong relational skills; excellent written and verbal communications skills; organizational skills; conflict management skills,
technology skills, including ability to utilize social media effectively in support of program goals; ability to multi-task; flexibility; maintains confidentiality of sensitive information; demonstrated leadership skills in a variety of settings; strong
commitment to continuing education.
1. Serves on PGUMC staff with responsibility for youth and small group ministries;
2. Assist with goal setting, developing and maintaining budgets, recruiting and maintaining well-trained
lay volunteers in youth and small group ministries to ensure successful and effective ministries in
areas of responsibility;
3. Manages the PGUMC Safe Sanctuaries policy for youth ministries. Ensures compliance with all Safe
4. Fulfills requirements for youth as outlined in Book of Discipline.
It is expected that each member of the PGUMC staff (whether part-time or full-time) will attend their spiritual growth through participation in small group or regular devotional time and through the discovery and use of their spiritual gifts; will
give regular support of PGUMC; will pray for the ministry and mission of PGUMC; will participate in continuing education opportunities related to the appropriate areas of responsibility; will provide clear leadership for their assigned area in support of
PGUMC mission; other duties as assigned by the Senior Pastor.
Terms of Employment
$35,000-$39,000 annually, plus $3000 health stipend, $2000 business-related travel, and $1000 continuing education (health stipend, travel and continuing education funds to be paid upon documented request for reimbursement).
