Job Description:

Baker Memorial UMC (http://bakermemorialchurch.org/) is seeking a person who perceives a vocational call to lead Christian Formation ministries for children, youth and their families.  The Minister of Christian Formation is a staff position responsible for creating an environment of growth for this demographic.  This includes guiding work area leaders, calling others into ministry as volunteers, vision-casting in connection with overall church vision, being a part of the church staff team, and being in ministry directly with children, youth, and families.

This position requires flexible hours, including Sunday mornings, weeknights, and some full weeks for mission trips.  This person must have a passion for Christ, a love for people from all walks of life, a desire to see others grow in faith, and Wesleyan faith perspective and practice. 


The ideal candidate has:

  • Passion for Christ and a long-term vocational call to help others grow in faith
  • Experience in recruiting and working with volunteers
  • A desire to lead and form teams to build sustainable, growing ministries for children, youth and families
  • Enthusiasm, creative energy, and a desire to continue learning about their ministry area
  • Confidence and creativity to envision and suggest new ideas, with humbleness to accept the ideas of others
  • Proven success in helping others grow in faith
  • Experience in mission trip planning and retreat design/implementation
  • Desire to seek out and introduce Christ to people unfamiliar with Christian faith
  • Excellent written, verbal, and technology based communication skills
  • Affinity for Baker Memorial’s purpose and vision of being a vibrant church for a modern world

Additional skills, knowledge and experience:

  •  Bachelor’s degree preferably in Christian Education, Sociology, Education, Theology, Child Development or other closely related field or commensurate experience
  • Some advanced education/certification in faith formation (preference given to those with or seeking Deacon’s orders)
  • Experience in effectively handling multiple projects in an organized and efficient manner
  • Familiarity with the theology and practice of the United Methodist Church
