Everything The Ridge does, runs through the grid and lens of reaching people.

The Ridge is marked by a strong sense of evangelism. Being a church for people who do not like church or who have given up on church, is one of their highest values. Connecting people to the church through groups, serving, and giving is also a high value, so that people can become more like Jesus.

The Ridge began as a traditional Bible church in the 1950s. The church has a rich heritage of Bible teaching and youth ministry. However, the most recent God-led journey for The Ridge began in 2008, that was driven by the vision “to do whatever it takes to reach our community for Christ.” That vision required a significant transition in values and strategy. The Ridge is a culture where baptisms, first-time guests, salvations, and outreach endeavors are highly celebrated, promoted, and welcomed.

The prospective Teaching/Family Pastor will maintain weekend and midweek teaching responsibilities while leading and providing oversight for the Family Ministry at The Ridge. He will be a unique anomaly—one who portrays relational ease of communication to hundreds, to small groups, and to individuals. He will be impeccably people-friendly in his teaching, and in his administrative leadership to the Family Ministry. During the first 24-months of work, the effective Teaching/Family Pastor will achieve the following goals among many others:
  • Weekend and midweek teaching – 35%
  • Family ministry leadership/development – 35%
  • Teaching team planning and development (and collaboration with Lead Pastor and production team) – 15%
  • Shared staff ministries (care, mentoring, etc.) – 15%
  • Strategize, create, and deploy a reinvigorated Family Ministry
  • Increased attendance of young families
  • Progressively increasing number of first time guests
  • Manage growth and assist multisite expansion
  • Intentional local outreach events surrounding families
  • Family ministry leadership and oversight of Children’s Director, Student Ministry Director, and parenting, women’s, and men’s ministries

The following offers a glimpse of the skills and characteristics of an ideal candidate for the position of Teaching/Family Pastor:

Education: Bachelor’s Degree required; Advanced degree in Biblical studies, ministry, or communication preferred.
Spiritual Gifts: Primary (essential for this position)--Teaching, Leadership; Secondary (beneficial for this position)--Administration.
Experience: Communication, interpersonal skills, Topical & Expository teaching styles, team-building, problem-solving, experience in multi-generational settings and communicating in multi-generational settings.

Columbus is a delightful small town (44,000) about 45 minutes south of Indianapolis. Columbus consistently is ranked as one of the top small towns in the United States. In 2009, Relocate-America’s Top 100 Places to Live noted the city's "impeccable art, lush landscaping, first-rate park system, and the outstanding architecture.” Experts from the Travel Channel, National Geographic, and Fodor’s helped compile a Forbes list, calling Columbus an “unexpected municipal gem." Forbes also named Columbus as one of the “Best Small Towns to Raise a Family” in November, 2010. Columbus is known for being family-oriented and safe, yet culturally-innovative and diverse.
