JOB DESCRIPTION: Pastor of Student Ministries


JOB SUMMARY The primary purpose of this job is to recruit, train, equip and lead a team of volunteer youth ministers to share the gospel of Jesus Christ with students in grades seven through twelve and to deeply disciple them in their relationship with Christ.


SUPERVISION Direct Report: Director of Student and Family Ministries Oversight: Senior Pastor, YCE and Session of FPC


QUALIFICATIONS • A personal relationship with Jesus Christ acknowledging that you are a sinner resting on the saving work of Christ alone. • A thorough knowledge of the Bible • Able to subscribe to the Evangelical Presbyterian Church Statement of Faith, teach and live compatible with the Westminster Confession of Faith, and become a member of the church soon after hiring • Embrace our mission and vision for student ministries • Demonstrate through past work experience or volunteer ministry a love for students and a passion to minister to them • Strong interpersonal skills that will enable candidate to readily do student contact work • Able to recruit, teach and train volunteer youth ministers. • Able to exercise initiative and judgment as an independent worker. • Possess organizational and administration abilities. • Able to respond to changing needs throughout the daily and weekly schedule. • Possesses a strong work ethic and high energy to carry out tasks


DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES The responsibilities of the Youth Pastor shall include the following:


GENERAL • Weekly worship attendance • Sunday School Attendance when not teaching • Participate fully in the life of the church • Join a small group, Bible Study, or participate in a mentoring relationship


STUDENT MINISTRY OVERSIGHT The Youth Pastor is responsible for both the Middle School and Senior High Sunday School and youth groups. This responsibility includes but is not limited to the following. • Recruit, train, equip and lead both Middle School and Senior High Volunteer Youth Ministry Teams • Be an advisor/mentor to the volunteer youth ministers • Plan, coordinate and lead both the middle school and senior high youth groups. • Demonstrate strong oral and written skills to used in weekly talks, presentations and small group Bible Studies • Plan and lead the Adult Leadership Team Meetings prior to youth group each week. • Provide ongoing training for leaders • Recruit Sunday School teachers, help choose curriculum and provide all oversight for the middle school and senior high Sunday School ministry • Plan and lead summer mission trips for both senior high and middle school students • Plan and lead retreats • Provide monthly service opportunities for students • Oversee the student leadership team, training and equipping the student leaders of each ministry team • Oversee and participate in the Student and children’s mentoring ministries; Grace for Girls and Growing Godly Guys • Do regular student contact work which includes one on one meetings, attending school events, hospital visits and meeting with parents. • Recruit and train leaders for bible Studies for both Middle School and Senior High ministries. • Regular communication with parents, which includes but is not limited to, weekly email Student Ministry Newsletter and ministry calendar.


ACCOUNTABILITY • Weekly Ministry Team Staff meetings • Weekly Student Ministry Staff meetings with Director of Student and Family Ministries which will include calendar, curriculum and program supervision and accountability • Monthly Family and Student Ministry Committee Meetings
