Our mission at Atlantic Shores Baptist Church is to glorify God by making disciples of Jesus Christ who go and make disciples. Our desire is to introduce people who are searching for the meaning of life, to the Author of life, God. He has made a way for people to be in a relationship with Him through his Son, Jesus Christ.


Founded in 1981 by Dr. George Sweet, Atlantic Shores Baptist Church grew from one family to a large church with an emphasis on outreach, discipleship, strong family values, and community. Today, this 34-year-old independent Baptist church occupies 8.72 acres at one of Virginia Beach’s busiest intersections. Atlantic Shores has nearly 1200 people in weekly attendance and has recently called only its fourth Lead Pastor in its 34-year history. Atlantic Shores has a strong vision and track record for reaching the community and the world. The church has a long-standing reputation for large scale outreach events that have impacted the community for the better.


Recently, God called Dr. Ron Jones to serve as the fourth Lead Pastor of Atlantic Shores Baptist Church and carry the ministry into the future. Ron’s life-changing Bible teaching is featured daily (M-F) on Something Good with Dr. Ron Jones and nationally syndicated on 187 stations ( The broadcast airs daily in the Virginia Beach area as an outreach tool of the church.

The successful candidate will exhibit a passion for children to experience God at Atlantic Shores Baptist Church. The church has a significant vision for the next generation, and it is imperative that this individual is able to lead, steward, execute, and deliver based upon this vision. They will additionally be able to cast vision and set the direction for the Children’s Ministry that is in alignment with the overall purpose of Atlantic Shores Baptist Church. This Children’s Pastor will be responsible for developing and leading a comprehensive, biblically-based, education and discipleship ministry for children birth through 5th grade. They will lead and grow a Christ-centered, engaging, and relevant ministry with strategy, creativity, and excellence. They will be an efficient leader who will work alongside the children, parents, leadership and staff of Atlantic Shores Baptist Church, to champion the cause of the organization.


The ideal candidate for the position of Children’s Pastor will be an exceptionally strategic and intrinsically people-oriented thought leader, with a passion for Children's Ministry. They will additionally possess a bachelor's degree, although a seminary background would be preferable, while significant experience in Children's Ministry may be substituted for the degree requirement.


They will possess previous leadership experience with a solid background in a related field such as education or child development. Furthermore, they will possess previous church staff and/or ministry experience with considerable understanding in leading, training, and deploying individuals/teams through sustainability and reform. This individual will additionally possess the following traits/skills:

  • Possess a high-energy, consistent, and disciplined work ethic.
  • Highly relational, approachable, and affable.
  • Display a high level of emotional intelligence and an intuitive nature.

  • An lifelong learner, receptive to feedback from senior leadership.
  • Team player and team builder who focuses on the good of the entire organization and can inspire others to work together to achieve organizational excellence.
  • Maintain consistent and continuous relationships with parents of the ministry.
  • A working knowledge of technology and social media utilized in the ministry.
  • Energy and enthusiasm, yet able to exude a calming influence when needed.
  • Creative, pragmatic problem solver who is energized by challenges, while changing and identifying untapped opportunities on which to capitalize within the ministry.
  • A deep desire to assist parents in their role.
