Position Summary: Covenant Church is located in Bowling Green, Ohio, a fun city (twenty minutes south of Toledo) that has a lively college in a small town, and is a great place for families. Covenant Church is seeking a full-time Pastor to support our vision to help people “know Jesus and make him known” with pastoral leadership as part of a collaborative team. This would involve oversight of specific parts of the ministry of the local church through effective training and equipping, teaching and preaching, administration, shepherding, and collaboration with the leadership team. This position will oversee the management of the staff on a weekly basis, and collaborate with the board of elders to provide overall care for the health of the church and seek to push the gospel forward in Bowling Green and beyond.

 

Reports to: Council of Elders

 

Responsibilities:

 

(1) Cast Vision and Develop Leaders

  • “Where there is no vision the people perish” (Proverbs 29:18). Clearly and practically communicate and live out the vision of Covenant Church, which is “to know Jesus and make Him known” from the pulpit and in all of life.

  • Alongside the elder team, develop a plan and process to identify, train and place new leaders in positions where they can joyfully and effectively serve in their gifting.

  • Encourage a church culture of prayer, missional living, care for one and other, and community engagement.

  • Gospel centered teaching and focused on reaching non-believers.

  • Encourage the congregation to view themselves as full time ministers of the gospel sent by God to make disciples.

 

(2) Oversee Sunday Morning Services

 

  • Plan, manage, and oversee the execution of the Sunday morning service with members of the leadership team.

 

(3) Pulpit Ministry


  • Preach both topical and expository sermons at least 2-3 times a month, while arranging opportunities for other leaders to preach.

  • Plan and develop sermon series for calendar year in collaboration with leadership team.

 

(4) Pastoral Functions & Care

  • Perform pastoral functions such baptisms, weddings, funerals, and baby dedications.

  • Provide counseling and care for members of the church and local community (where needed and possible).

 

(5) Office Administration & Staff Development


  • Provide leadership to the staff through effective feedback, collaboration, and regular progress meetings, ensuring that the staff promote and support the vision of the church.

  • Co-lead numerous administrative efforts with office administrator such as building management and arrangements, and other policies.

  • Plan and lead staff meetings and retreats for the purpose of growing together as a team and enhancing collaborative ministry.

 

(6) Community Involvement

  • Establish relationships with individuals, churches, and organizations within the local community.

  • It is preferable for the pastor to serve on 1-2 non-profit boards in the community.

 

(7) Other functions and responsibilities as assigned by the Board of Elders.

 

Qualifications:

  • Enjoys collaboration and being a part of a team

  • A biblical or theological degree (four-year degree required, seminary degree preferred).

  • 5-10 years or more of ministry experience, preferably in a mid-size to large church.

  • Be able to sign and promote the teachings in Covenant's Statement of Faith.

  • Comfortable with counseling people in dire situations and training others to do so.

  • Knowledge with regard to church growth (college town experience a plus).

  • Experience promoting a culture of discipleship.

  • Excellent interpersonal skills.
