Worship Pastor

Status: Full Time

Reports to: Lead Pastor

Compensation: Based on recommendation by Lead Pastor and the Advisory Team. Vacation to be determined at the time of hire.


Summary: Under the direction and oversight of the lead pastor, lead worship at Pathways. Develop a sustained culture of worship.  Recruit, train, and mentor worship team members.  Actively participate as a member of the Leadership Staff Team. 



  • Creative Planning
  • Participate in regular Creative Planning Sessions
  • Work with the pastors and Creative Planning Team on creative element selection and development (videos, object lessons)
  • Be available for planning and execution of Concerts of Prayer, Concerts of Worship, and holiday services
  • Developing the Worship Team
  • Recruit and build vocal and instrumental teams and secondary teams
  • Invest in the development of vocal and instrumental musicians
  • Work personally with existing, and developing musicians to “raise the bar”
  • Leading the Worship Team
  • Provide spiritual leadership for the worship team (devotionals, shepherding team members, teaching them about worship from a biblical viewpoint)
  • Communicate well with all musicians in all aspects of the worship ministry
  • Coordinate with teams in set selection and special music
  • Maintain a variety of sing-able music styles
  • Lead rehearsals, including…
  • Making final decisions on overall song arrangements and songs transitions
  • Preparing, assigning and teaching supporting vocal parts to the participating vocalists when applicable (or delegating this to appropriate team members)
  • Lead Sunday morning rehearsal & pre-service meetings
  • Work with and help coordinate other venue worship teams.
  • Leading Worship
  • Lead, co-lead or facilitate worship services (and additional services as added)
  • Spiritually lead the congregation in the purposes and meaning of worship
  • Directing Tech Teams
  • Recruit and leaders for the Sound, Media, Camera, Stage and Lighting Teams
  • Invest in the development of each of these team leaders
  • Oversee these team leaders as they recruit, develop and oversee their teams
  • Work personally with existing, and developing team leaders to “raise the bar”
  • Oversee and give direction to the Pathways Technical Coordinator




  • Provide spiritual leadership (including regular prayer and devotionals)
  • Develop relationships with team members
    • Provide opportunities for team members to develop relationships with each other
    • Live out the Crucial Heart Attitudes
    • Resolve conflicts between yourself and other team members
    • Help team members resolve conflicts with you and with each other in a swift and godly way
  • Communicate well – keeping your team informed and updated regularly
    • Use Planning Center for scheduling
    • Use Planning Center to create a detailed flow chart for each service
      • Use this in pre-worship meetings
    • Keep the team informed about opportunities for growth or ideas for enhancing worship and stage presentation (conference info, and resources to pass around)
  • Celebrate, appreciate and encourage your team leaders and team members
  • Remain sensitive to the differing styles of learning and absorption rates on the team
  • Make a point to introduce new worship team members or potential worship team candidates to the rest of the team so they may extend enthusiastic welcome and encouragement
  • Meet with team leaders monthly for training/encouragement/team building:
    • Worship Team: vocal and instrumental musicians      
    • Tech Team: Sound, Camera, Media, Lighting and Stage                                          
  • Meet regularly for Creative Planning Sessions for future services
  • Make the most of limited rehearsal time:
    • Provide the team with accurate charts and new music samples prior to rehearsal
    • Avoid the last minute scramble to help present more of a heart for worship on stage rather than laboring to get through the material

  • Experience – minimum 3 years experience leading worship
  • Team size led: 3 to 6 member teams (guitar led)
  • Church size led – minimum 300 +
  • Church tenure: minimum 2-3 years at a church
  • Technical expectations: experienced user of presentation media, instrumental loops, in-ear monitors, digital audio, lighting and stage design
  • Team builder: able to discover, develop and deploy teams for
  • Vocals
  • Instrumentals
  • Audio tech
  • Camera tech (including multi-site connectivity)
  • Media tech
  • Experience with lighting technology
