Job Description:

Something epic is happening at First Church of the Open Bible! Jesus Christ is writing a breathtaking narrative of redemption and restoration as He transforms one life at a time. Perhaps God is calling you to join us on this incredible journey of Bible Based, Gospel Centered and Spirit Empowered ministry.

Are you passionate about the call of God?  Does it energize you to see servant leaders being equipped for the five-fold ministry to love, edify and stimulate the local Church to fulfill the Great Commission (Ephesians 4:11-13, Matthew 28:18-20)?  Can you envision a School of Ministry, in the Bible Institute tradition, which is Biblically accurate, academically challenging, intentionally hands-on, and purposefully affordable?  Do you have a heart to cultivate dreams and nurture sons and daughters in the faith?  If so, you may be the right team member that First Church of the Open Bible is seeking for the director of Harvest Bible Institute.

Harvest Bible Institute is a forthcoming ministry of First Church with a tentative launch date of Fall 2017.  The position of Director will incorporate both preparation for inauguration, as well as details for establishment and sustainment.  In essence, we are looking for a director who would be an entrepreneur, academic, pioneering pastor, who will have the freedom to lead, but, at the same time, serve on staff of a local church.

  • Born again, Bible based (e.g., Gordon Fee), Gospel centered (e.g., Matt Chandler and John Piper), and Spirit empowered (e.g., Jim Cymbala, D. L. Moody, Gordon Fee, and Roger Stronstad).
  • A team member who functions as a multiplier and equipper.
  • Believe and adhere to Pentecostal beliefs and distinctives (must be Biblically sound).  At First Church, our goal is to be known as Pentellectuals – “thinking Pentecostals.” (see our Statement of Faith for specific assertions regarding Spirit baptism and divine healing). Note: We are not Word of Faith, seeker sensitive, emgerent or adherents of IHOP.  Although Arminian in theology, we resonate with Acts 29 and Sovereign Grace Ministries in terms of "orthodoxy on fire".
  • Possess a D.Min, Ph.D, or Th.D degree applicable to ministry (concentration in Bible, Church & Ministry, Spiritual Formation, Christian Leadership, Theology, etc.) from a recognized institution of higher learning. We may consider the right candidate with a M.A. or M. Div.
  • At least 2 years experience serving in an institution of higher learning, School of Ministry, and/or ministry experience.
  • At least 2 years experience serving in a team context in Pastoral or missionary ministry.
  • Ability to inspire people and keep a group motivated.
  • Have a proven track record of mentoring, coaching and discipleship.
  • Working knowledge of Moodle, Blackboard, Populi or equivalent.
  • Must have administrative and organizational skills.
  • Shall submit to a thorough background investigation.
  • Be a person of Christ-like and consistent character.
  • Be in one accord with the standards of First Church of the Open Bible (Harvest Bible Institute is a ministry of First Church of the Open Bible and exists under the auspices and authority of such).

The HBI Director will…

  • serve on the Ministry Team and will meet with this team once a week for prayer, planning, preparation, development, mentoring, and fellowship.
  • minister on the preaching team at First Church.
  • serve as the primary vision caster and promoter of HBI, First Church, and Open Bible Churches.
  • present to the Elder Board, for approval, the organizational structure of HBI.
  • work on and maintain accreditation for HBI through a recognized accrediting agency or Credit Transfer Agreements (or covering) with various Bible Colleges and/or Christian Universities.
  • select, oversee, and organize the adjunct instructors for HBI.
  • work on and maintain endorsement status with Open Bible Churches.
  • assist instructors in selection of curriculum and preparation of syllabi.
  • supervise the relationship between students and the administration.
  • administer weekly chapel services utilizing the adjunct instructors, as well as additional preachers to speak to the students.
  • develop mentoring program for HBI students.
  • establish a centralized system for fundraising, advancement, and development.
  • represent HBI at summer Camps and Breakaway, as well as in public affairs.
